How is CG?

For discussions, announcements, non-technical questions and anything else comics-related or otherwise that doesn't fit in any of the other categories.

My pog got approved a lot faster (at least I'm assuming it got approved because I think i spotted it once.) I still haven't gotten any hits from it, so I think they must not be very useful :P

I would be interested in seeing, merely for educational purposes, some stats on the CG homepage.

You should be able to tell from the siteadmin if it is approved or not.

As for getting hits from it, if that really persists over a long time (and bothers you) then you might want to consider revamping your pog. If the goal is to attract attention, then you have to take into account that you are actually competing with every other pog that randomly generates on the CG main page. Does it catch your eye? Is it appealing (or, barring that, intriguing)? And, in order to actually keep most of those that click through, is it representative?

What you may want to do is actually create multiple pogs on your computer. Different designs, characters, positioning, etc. Then put them on a html page with a similar colour background to the CG main page and view it in a browser. Start with which ones caught your eye first? Try to figure out why and move from there. Ultimately, you have to answer affirmatively the question 'with no other information, would I click this button?' Once you've isolated the one you like, upload it.

Having said that, our pog isn't especially novel, so you can take the advice with a grain of salt.

I think my pog is fine--I think it just hasn't had many chances to show up yet, and that people aren't necessarily using the pogs to find comics.

Actually, I think my pog generates a fair amount of traffic. According to my stats, a chunk of traffic comes from the main CG page and I assume that is via the pog. (Funny, because I think I've only seen it appear once, as opposed to some pogs, which seem to always be up.)

My pog isn't terribly artistic, but it does have a red background. Maybe it's the red, catches the eye and whatnot.

My CG wiki entry also generates a good amount of traffic.

I know in the first year (ha, the makes Fortune's Fools sound a lot older and more mature than it is) our readers generally found their way through either the main page (so I assume the pog as well) or the CG forums. I imagine that most of our new readers still come by that route.

Perhaps I'll have to ask you how I go about using that thing, because I looked at it and gave up after five minutes when I did not fully and completely understand (... which, now that I think about, also sounds strikingly like every artistic hobby I had during my childhood).

My pog still shows up in siteadmin but I haven't seen it on the main page in ages.

It only appears in the rotation if you've updated within the last seven days. That's why you won't find mine in there either at the moment. :shifty:

I'd be happy to help, but I suspect it would be like the blind leading the blind. I set up the wiki entry soon after I started the comic (year ago). As I recall, the wiki interface is...."uncooperative" to say the least. I got HC's entry sort of presentable, and then never went back. I assume it still exists because I get hits from it.

(I love your comic, btw. And I think I originally discovered it via its pog.)

Ah, this was also my experience. Except without the dogged tenacity to fight onward... or even starting it. Oh well, at some point I'm going to have to make an effort of it. Don't be surprised if there is a message sent your way at that time. There is probably some sort of meta CGwiki page on making cgwiki pages, but I'll just have to find it first.
