can't acces siteadmin site

I can't access the http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com site... what's up with that?

i just get

I think it's something related with the moving servers, be patient.

In the meantime you can try the old siteadmin: http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com:8080/ ... /login.cgi

the link you gave me doesn't work...

and this means I can't make my comic update - I simply can't trigger them, and they dont appear to happen automatically, even with the dates set via the files uploaded 20070702.jpg, which is the last file up added to the ftp, hasn't gone updaty!

Not everyone has switched with their DNS updated, in fact I only think about 1/5th of the internet has based on the shape of the bell curve.

I'm not entirely sure what you were trying to say there...

Long story short: Server switching entails a whole bunch of problems for all of CG at the moment. It'll all get worked out.

I'm unable to access the normal siteadmin as well, but the link above works for me. I only wanted into the normal siteadmin to see if the webalizer stats were being recorded again, and if they were doing so properly this time.

Heh, I don't suppose anyone has a direct link for something like THAT, do they?

If you are using firefox, you can technically access the webalizer stats directly via members.comicgenesis.com/username/logs/ , but you'll be prompted for passwords continously

but i'm using the same name/pw combo i always used for siteadmin... so I can't see where I'm doing wrong

You have to use your comic name as the login, not your forum name.

simple, you use the login/pass combo that you use for the FTP, not the forums like the newer siteadmin uses, it's the same one you used to first activate your comic in the new siteadmin in the first place =p

This was one of the reasons people weren't supposed to use the old siteadmin anymore, it had a very bad session handler that IE didn't like half the time. Which is funny because when I worked for the old AT&T Wireless their website did the exact same thing and whenever I got a customer that couldn't login I told them to reboot their computer first and voila, it worked.

Anyway the old siteadmin has a very strict cookie/session handler, that's why it's difficult to make work. Use the FTP password on it. The new siteadmin uses the forum password. The use is intentional, since the new siteadmin manages multiple comics, while the old siteadmin manages one comic at a time and you have to close the web browser completely between managing comics, which is annoying.

k good news everyone.

I've removed the phpBB based session and login system from siteadmin (on the new server), because for some reason it just stopped working dead when it moved over.

It STILL uses your forum password, but otherwise works the same.

However... you can not logout. You can, but you can't. I'll demonstrate

If you can access to the new siteadmin on the new server, you'll get a HTTP authentication window, no matter which utility you use. Use your forum username and password, this is where it gets tricky. If you have not, or NEVER logged into the forums, it will not let you in. You only need to login to the forums once after today for it to update the password. If you change your forum password you ALSO have to login for it to update the password on the siteadmin.

Pretty much how this differs from before is that your web browser verifies the password on EVERY SINGLE PAGE instead of assuming the session is valid (and the sticking point as to why this wasn't working) So the second you login to the forums, it will start working.

Techinical jargon:
login to the forums, it generates a new password hash in the format for http authentication (originally Apache was supposed to do it, but that would never work either, grr)
then login to the siteadmin using the same username and password, CASE SENSITIVE.
it will no work exactly like before except you will not logout automatically by navigating away, the only way to logout is to affix ?&logout to any page on the siteadmin which will force the http authentication to popup again. At this point you can punch cancel and navigate away

This has severe implications if you use a shared computer, since there is no longer a session handler, if you wander away, anyone who has physical access to your web browser can tamper with your site. For this reason I'll be adding a force logout button to the new siteadmin. However it's your own responsibility to push it before you leave.

On the other hand if your machine is ONLY your machine, if you never close the web browser, you'll always be logged into the siteadmin.

to your hosts file, at least you'll be able to get to the new siteadmin even if the DNS hasn't propigated to you yet. (It hadn't to me.)

Also: it would be nice if the admins either merged this thread and this thread, or if they locked one or something, just so we didn't have two about essentially the same problem.

That be the recommended solution

in windows xp it's c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

you can do that with any CG site but the wiki and forums

it should take less than 48 hours for the rest to propagate. really I don't know what 'time' the dns is supposed to update at, bit each DNS server takes their own damned time.

my problem right now isn't siteadmin related at all

i can't access the ftp - when I access it using my SmartFTP client i get a message:

A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

basically, a time-out in the connection from what I can see

I can trigger updates, but I cant upload

I can upload, and now access the new siteadmin, but hell if the updates actually do anything.

Although I am getting the

error in FTP before it gives me access to the files about 30 seconds later.

tried to wait it out like Kirb said...

it timed out after 60 seconds of no activity on the connection - it then tried to reconnect, but said that it couldn't accept two connections from the same user
