I remember... my first posts... it went like this:

*compliments Sin about the book from Evil Dead 2 being used in a jam*

*Rock replies something about it being his idea.*

*I apologize for not knowing*

*Tynan quotes my post and edits it with lines from the movie.*

D: Seriously, my heart just stopped for a moment. Kid you not. It got all tingly and then it sank in my chest.

I'm going to have to say this: "You Bastard"

B. NEVER SAW THAT MOVIE!
*people give me funny looks*

Then Sortelli says I'm one of the group.

*Then I go and rent the movie*

That reminds me to kick Tynan now.

It was about the same as my days 2 or 3 years in...I suppose people recognize me slightly more. Oh, and my comics look much better.

I had to look up my earliest posts because I couldn't remember.
Apparently I was excited about joining Keenspace. I mostly hung out in my own forum and a few others years before I got into the main community.

I had several problems. I don't remember them now. I had some idols. Most of them are gone now...

First few days of Keenspace?

No problems. I just posted somewhere in response to something. I didn't bother with an introduction thread.

Idols? None. I didn't read webcomics. I still read very few. There are some good people here, but I think they'd be rather embarrassed to think of themselves as idols. I hope they would.

Friends who helped me? I'm sure there were people who helped me. Can you really call others on a forum friends if you don't know them personally?

How did the comic do? Quietly. Much like now. I didn't make a big deal of it though, I just posted in places and when I had 30 odd strips I put up a thread. It was relatively ignored. :)

Anything else? Do your best to keep out of the spats. There are better things to spend your time on.

Cheers.

My first days were spent in silent solitude, and the occasional post to the help center.

My first comic was for my high school senior project, so I basically focused on that.

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?
The site or the forum?
My first days on CG were when I put the mcDuffies site first. First days were about three visits or so. The first incom of visits was when I applied to some comic lists, until then it was like "wow, 10 visits!"
First on forums, I think I asked for something in help forum, then gradually started posting. I was very shy in early days. Things weren't so... intimate like nowadays. There were some officially cool guys, but I wasn't one of them really, I started being cool only when people realised I had most posts of them all (which was a sheer accident really, at one time a forum glitch messed up almost everyone's account and I was the top posted of those who went unharmed).

Did you remember having any problems?
I remember struggling with my english actually. I always wanted to say complicated stuff but used to lack words for that.
No major problems with setting up a site, it was similar to stuff I did for my uni courses.

How did you first find CG/Keenspace?
I think I was reading Keenspot comics and they ocassinally lended a newsbox to 'Space comics.

Who were your idols?
My idols of early days were Maritza Camposs and Pete Abrams. I wish I was idolizing them less, actually, things I was doing back then were copy of their work a lot, but things I was doing before webcomics were much more similar to what I'm doing now. That's, I think, the real me.

Did you have any friends who helped you?
Well, dunno, not directly, but every good word is a boost of self-confidence.

How did your comic do at first?
It did poor for a few years, then went better as I worked more on advertising it, but then when my updated went awry and I started slacking on drawing, they went straight to hell.

Anything else? :D
A tequilla, please.

The day my account opened, the ComicGenesis server was suffering one of its occasional buffer blockages. I kept poring through the KeenSpace Gear site for hours trying to find out what I did wrong, why my comics wouldn't appear. Eventually I checked the Help forum here, saw lots of other people were having the same problem, and realized that it wasn't my fault.

I didn't start to post on the forums until several months later.

I found CG by clicking the "this comic is hosted by..." link at the bottom of one of my favorite comics. And I said to myself... "hey, this looks like fun!"

I joined the forums because my website wasn't working right. Password problems, I think. So I lingered around the Help forum for a while before branching out. My newb days were like adolescence... a bit awkward, but a learning experience. Then came the CG-DD war, and people started recognizing me.

My idols at the time...? Hmm. I practically deified regular posters, I know that. McDuffies and Kisai in particular. Now, I have no idea why, because I've learned that everyone here is a bunch of scumbags and pervs.

My first days...we don't talk about...just don't ask...let it die.

Problems? Yeah stopping my fingers from typing...that was one of them. Or taking camwhore photos..that was a big problem.

I found Keenspace via Mercury Hat after browsing through the Dominic Deegan forums and curiously clicking on the Keenspace icons on Keenspot..though when first I tried they didn't work. So I gave up for about ninemonths and came back to it one day.

I was my own Idol.....not. Artistically it was a mish mash of TLH and Soap. I adored all things Bob, and was smitten with wars comic. And right now Black Sparrow...for being the queen of the pervs.

Spriteville, K-Dawg, Pimpette, the box. They helped me more than I can ever thank them for, though everyone lended a helping hand at one time or another when I was starting up.

What'd my comic do? Nothing...absolutely nothing. I used scrap paper and sketches...still basically do because I'm too much of a lazy ass to sit down and work.

...ummm

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?

Keenspace, I set up a comic. I got onto the forums slightly later. I don't really remember my first post, I think it was one sentence. I somehow bypassed the beatings some newbies get, and warmed up to the forums over the next few months.

Did you remember having any problems?

Keenspace had just had a major crash before I came onto the scene; I was one of the first people Kisai put onto the new server at the time, with my new domain name. Then everyone else had problems, but the people hosted on the new server did not. I felt special.

How did you first find CG/Keenspace?

Something Positive was my first webcomic; That writer had links to other artists, one of which was on Keenspace, and I followed the bottom 'Hosted by' link from there.

Who were your idols?

Yarpsdat and the guy with the freaky avatar with blue eyes that twinkled.

Did you have any friends who helped you?

Nope.

How did your comic do at first?

I got 20 readers in a heartbeat. And very slow after that.

Anything else?

I could really go for a BLT sandwich on toast, right about now.

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?
Yes.
Did you remember having any problems?
I only signed up on the forums. I (much) later signed up to use the CG service to mirror my comic, but I never did get that working. (Never got my password.)
How did you first find CG/Keenspace?
Probably through Keenspot, or an internet search on comics. I was familiar with it for years before finally making my way here.
Who were your idols?
Noone was.
Did you have any friends who helped you?
I wouldn't call them friends.
How did your comic do at first?
*Shrugs* Well enough, I suppose.
Anything else?
That depends on your gender, age, and how attractive or unattractive you are.

oh HO!!! What a fun topic for MEEEEEE.

1) yes. I lurked a lot, and never been a regular member on any forum, so I was a total noob.

2) I had tons of problems. I made too many topics in TTT early on, and was....really vocal on my views, which at the time, was very intolerant of many livestyles and beliefs that some of the CGers had. This was mostly seen in #keenspace.

3) I found CG while reading Arcana, the webcomic, and I think she had a forum that was a subforum of this one. So when I decided to make my own CG website, I came here for help.

4) My idols? Hmm. Sparrow, cuz she was kind to me early on. Still is <3. There was Neko, cuz he was a brutally honest critic, and that intrigued me when I was 16. Errr......and Bob. :D Cuz I was literally infatuated with his drawing style, which....became exaggerated. LOLZ. Oh, my internet youth.

5) Sparrow....later Hogan. I have tons of CG buddies now.

6) average. I learned that linking your comic to your signature in the forum helped TONS though.

7) CG is the shiznits.

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?

yeah. it was a few months ago when I came around here to pitch my comic and I came across these other topics I found interesting, from where I had something to learn.

Did you remember having any problems?

yeah. lack of visitors. now it's even worse. lack of English skill. Now I'm getting slightly better and improving.

How did you first find CG/Keenspace?

from Joel Fagin's tutorial. ;)

Who were your idols?

Gina Biggs and Bleedman.

Did you have any friends who helped you?

I dunno if they were really friends, but they helped me in a way or another.

How did your comic do at first?

some people say that my comic was fine at first, but now is waaay better. in my opinion it sucked a little bit, cause I was doing pretty bad with English and my drawing skill as well.

Anything else?

I miss my kitty! :(

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?

Yeah, I'd just taken over the artwork for RotD, and didn't have my own comic yet.

Did you remember having any problems?

When I started up Distant Eras, I couldn't get the site working for awhile...luckily, I had Jim to help me out or else I'd probably still be trying to figure it out! Forum problems, though, none.

How did you first find CG/Keenspace?

Through Jim...It's where he had RotD.

Who were your idols?

Didn't have any.

Did you have any friends who helped you?

I wouldn't say that I really needed help (aside from the site problems that Jim helped me out with) but I did already know some people (Vort, Kolter, etc) from going to the second annual cookout the previous year. Thanks to that, I didn't really feel new anyway, and managed to escape some things (like the box).

How did your comic do at first?

Worse than it's doing now (although it's still pretty slow). It stagnated with about 40 readers for several months.

Anything else?

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?

Yeah. I was pretty stoked when my first comic came up. I spent almost every day for the first couple of weeks making slight changes to my site, especially my cast page, to reflect the developments in strip's storyline. Eventually realized not very many people were reading yet and that I was basically doing a lot of work for nothing.

Did you remember having any problems?
On the signup page, there's a place where you put in what you want your URL to be, and it clearly states that it's the one thing you can't change your mind about, because once it's there, it's there.

I'm sure you can guess what happened.

So I had to wait another two weeks for the original signup to become null, and then wait another two weeks for the new site to become active.

This was a blessing in disguise because it allowed me to build up a sizeable buffer.

How did you first find CG/Keenspace?

From the Keenspot site, which I found through Wikipedia. I didn't even know there was such a thing as webcomics before that (this was a little over a year ago).

Who were your idols?

If you mean CG idols, I didn't have any. Still don't have any IDOLS per se, but there's a number of CG strips I like—8:1, Modern Love, Ugly Girl, One Small Step, Cortland, to name just a few.

Did you have any friends who helped you?

Nope. I did it my way.

How did your comic do at first?

Lousy. Well, maybe it was a typical CG start these days, since you're competing for attention with several thousand other webcomics. It took me two months to get to 100 unique visitors a day, and that was with me whoring the comic on every street corner in town. It built very, very slowly and then one day the right person linked to me and my readership quintupled in a matter of days.

Anything else?

I'm on Keenspot now, but I still feel like I'm a part of CG. Oh, and anybody who thinks being on Keenspot means you've "made it," I'm here to tell you that's not the case. I still could use all the new readers I can get.

Won't you be my new reader?

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?

I got my account in August, procrastinated on doing anything with it until November, procrastinated on posting on the forums until January, and then posted something timid and forgettable while hoping that no one would notice I was there. Unfortunately, a fellow noob then deliberately drew attention to the existence of noobs in general (several of us turned up in that one week, for some reason), and I found myself cringing near the centre of an anti-noob storm.

Did you remember having any problems?

I couldn't figure out how anything worked. I am almost completely technologically incompetent, but that was really no excuse. I am still afraid I'm going to break something every time I modify my site, which I really need to make prettier.

How did you first find CG/Keenspace?

I can't remember. I think I accidentally ran into it while surfing the web in quest of webcomic information one day. Later, once I had already established my comic on another site, a friend encouraged me to broaden my potential audience by starting a CG site as well.

Who were your idols?

I live in awe of most of the people here.

Did you have any friends who helped you?

Nope.

How did your comic do at first?

Hey...I get excited when my average daily visits increase by one or two...so while I'm sure the actual answer is "Not well," I prefer "Great; I had never actually had fans before, so the fact that I had managed to find two regular readers who were not personal acquaintances of mine thrilled me." My readership is increasing slowly (I don't advertise much or, really, at all), but it is increasing, so that's okay. I know that averaging 50 visits a day technically isn't really very wonderful (though admittedly, I update only every other day), but it seems wonderful to me.

Wow...I'm not usually an optimist. Why am I being an optimist now?

Anything else?

I quite like this place. I don't post here all that often (except when someone starts going on about medieval English poetry), but I enjoy reading what everyone else has to say.
