Work and college.

Minus work now. I quit my job because work wasn't giving me enough time for college. Maybe now I'll have more time... :shifty:

I'm away to college and I don't have all I need to make a comic (ie computer, scanner, internet connection)

I'm going to be paying a damn lot of money for a long time to be going back to school now, so my brain is engaged in worry-about-classes mode until I can make it come up with more story dialog.

There is No Excuse.

A reasonable buffer allows, even if you are dead ill, you won't miss an update.

This is a crazy concept, I know, but sometimes, if you're too busy to do comics, you just might be, oh, I don't know, too busy to build a buffer.

Now I'm very happy that I don't have a regular update schedule.

Yeah, until your buffer runs out because you have work, educational obligations, and a social life to balance. The comic is a hobby and I refuse to apologize for not putting it above things that are more important in life.

This seems kind of fitting right now:

Very cool.

My excuse is bourbon. While it allows for a ridiculous boost with regards to creative writing, it also detracts from the very little stamina I have.

I don't think I'm the only one whose zone is inconveniently situated between 3-4 AM?

Oh, and my work. It's depressingly left-brained. So many hemispherically opposite activities, so little mental bandwidth. *sigh*

My excuse is a combination of work / school stress and the fact that I'm spending a bit more time on each strip and don't want to just post a comic I'm not happy with. :-?

Wow. You never really realize just what age most webcomikers are until most of tell you "collge/uni keeps me from updating".

While I am also in college right now, it only seems to have increased my free time.

I think I have been at this lil hobby of mine long enough to notice that for most, if not all, webcomickers, the excuse is either one or the other or both of the above.

I"ve seen the occasional "health" excuse, ie tendonitis and carpel tunnel syndrome, and I've seen the "I've outgrown it" case, where people don't want to update cuz webcomics are no longer of interest to them. This last one seems to be a terrible habit that I wish would die: lack of work ethic. Some people are just too lazy to keep to a schedule.

Finally, some people lack drive to draw. It's not that they don't want to draw, they just don't have what I like to call (Vorticus, don't hurt me :D ) "mojo", where when one lacks this "mojo", they for some reason can't make a good page, or draw at all cuz their muse is missing for that particular moment. It usually returns after a while, for me a few days, for others months. But for others, it never comes back, so they stop updating, or go on hiatus.

Eh, it happens. My excuse is usually lack of "mojo"/school and I just added work to that list. :D
