The Art of Retouching
This gallery of rollover images contains model shots, both before and after they've been wrung through Photoshop.
Some are just simple lighting adjustments which I reckon is quite fair. A goodly number are actually seriously edited.
Always something that's fun to get cynical about.

Nice. 8) I especially like this one:

EDIT: That, and the one with the two girls holding a laptop. You can still see the reflection of the one on the right's original expression in the mirror.

Heh, that one was scary too. It's like she aged 20 years when I rolled over it.rock_dash wrote:I dunno, this one surprised me: http://www.glennferon.com/portfolio1/portfolio37.htmlJTigerclaw wrote:That's like the only one that made me jump when I rolled over it... it was quite frightening.PF27 wrote:Nice. 8) I especially like this one:

Apparently whoever retouches those photos is pretty damn good though.

The most prominent and consistent change, besides increasing the brightness, seems to be removing wrinkles under the eyes, especially for the older women. It really makes them look much younger and attractive. The cleavage effects are pretty strange, often involving digital skin being placed on top of clothing to exaggerate bust size. Probably the most fascinating aspect is how some of the alterations seem too unrealistic to be believable, and while this could be a result of shoddy craftsmanship, it could also indicate a intentional presentation of elaborated artificial characteristics designed to further objectify the women and, thus, increase their sex appeal.
However, in regards to these sort of images, the phrase "jacking off to pixels", used in reference to attractive female video game characters, takes on a new, twisted meaning.

this one is rediculous: http://www.glennferon.com/portfolio1/portfolio12.html

I wonder why body image is so bad...

The shadow where his pectoral muscle meets his armpit was altered slightly.
I find it funny that her skirt was raised higher.

I think she was cooler with the markings.

They always smooth out the facial structure and add makeup to the point where they look like they're made of wax. Worse, they look shopped. I guess Photoshop = beauty nowadays. I wonder if we can harness that.

Yeah, retouching has just gotten ridiculous nowadays...
On the other side of the coin, it's the only reason many models acan stay employed so long.
*thinks there should be more "au naturel" models*

About half looked hawt before the retouch and shouldn't have been touched.
About a quarter of them looked better with lighting retouched.
About a quarter of them desperately needed the retouch, but not because of how they looked but because of the shot, or maybe they had a bad hair day. With two exceptions, I didn't think any of the before shots were UGLY.
IMHO I didn't like the ones where they took out the background stuff - removed a picture, or lamps, or changed the bedspread... the backgrounds really set the image well.
Women beware - you can't be as hot as the pictures, because the pictures aren't real. Be yourself and be surprised at what men find attractive in real life.

I like how Mylissa Ford or whatever her name is and how he just shrinks her waists everytime! The majority of these pictures I've seen in hip hop magazines.
But my girl Mary J. looks great, even better, than with airbrushing.
http://www.glennferon.com/portfolio1/portfolio20.html
I love me some Mary J.
I rememeber hearing on Next Top Model, Tyra Banks show, that if your picture has little airbrushing, photographers prefer you over other people, cuz airbrushing is expensive.
