Dude! DUDE! Look!

Post by Thievery »

I like totally witnessed a car crash today.
Oh my giddy God's trousers.

I've never really seen one before! I mean, I've been in a motorcycle accident but that's not the same.

So I was getting a ride home from school from my friend, and we were stuck behind the cars waiting to go the other way in the school parking lot, we were waiting for an opening when we heard a KRACK-A-CRUNCH! I hadn't been looking and all I heard was something that sounded like glass breaking. I looked over and in the exit lane there was this car with its lights shattered and hood bent! Dude! Once my brain had processed this information, we saw that the car (not us) had hit the SUV in front of it.

Being teenage drivers as they were, both drivers, whom I knew by face, got out of their respective cars and started dropping the f-bombs, and other assorted paraphenalia. Fun fun times.

I hadn't been paying that much attention, so I'm not certain if it was the SUV or the car what caused it, but that was certainly a sight.

It wouldn't have been slightly funny if anyone had gotten hurt, of course. Both sets of passengers and drivers got out, started cursing and/or staring. Kind of interesting how the car got its hood crunched and light shattered, and all they had to do was dust off the SUV. Rather stupid of the passenger in the SUV to dust off the SUV, when there was probably broken glass on it, but whatever.

Really off topic, I know, but interesting to me.

You, like, totally witnessed a car crash! Ohmigawd, like shut-up!

I've witnessed at least a dozen since we moved into my new house about 6-7 years ago. There's this really dangerous corner at the end of the block, where you're not supposed to make left turns or continue onwards down the street, but people do anyway, and get hit when the cross traffic comes. Once we heard this huge kerSMASH and saw that a car had actually flipped UPSIDE DOWN onto the curb on the opposite side of the street. The firemen had to cut the occupants out using those "jaws of life" things, but remarkably, nobody was severely injured!

I saw a car flipped on it's roof, lying on the road. It could be seen just a little beyond the backyard. The police were scouting the woods between my house and the road that night.

Car crashes are crazy. They just get your adrenaline up.

I once saw a car spin out right in front of me... on a BRIDGE. I narrowly avoided a crash myself... but afterwards, I just couldn't stop giggling.

Narrowly escaped a chain-car-crash. I was on the bus, and these two cars wrecked each other in front of our bus. Missed it by 3 yards, hard-brake.

I just went, "Oh". :S

Near remberance day, a few fugitives were apprehended trying to steal a car in our school parking lot. This happened about ten minutes before the bell rang and everyone would have filed out of the building into said parking lot for a field trip.

After the field trip had finished, and we were waiting for the bus to take us back to school, a kid on a bike was run over by a car half a block from us. Of course, being the mature and sophisticated teenagers we were, we were all, "Dude? You see that?" "The dude hit by the car?" "Yeah, wasn't it awesome?!?!"

We had a marvelous view of the abulance showing up and rolling him into the back as we drove past.

All in all, a rather eventful day.

I used to live in a redwood forest.

That's not nearly as cool as it sounds: redwoods forests are dark, damp and full of spiders. Good place to visit for a hike but a lousy place to live.

That and spotted owl poop is really hard to clean off your car.

Speaking of cars. See a car crash is one thing but being in one is a way more impressive experience.

Odviously, the US-regulated "5-mph bumper" didn't help them, seeing how you said there was notable physical damage to both vehicles. Therefore, I can say that they were going faster than 5mph (8kph).

Any idea of the made and model of the vehicles involved? If so, I could pin down GVW and all the other bits.

EDIT: I'm wrong. 5mph bumpers aren't going to help when the bumpers are at different heights. Quiet odvious why the car sustained hood and light damage and the SUV was "dusted off".
As far as my meager eyesight gave me, five miles per hour seems about right.

Can't help you with the GVW things. Un big car e un little car.

I don't actually say 'like' as I talk, I was kidding. T'was supposed to represent my purile fascination. ^_^

Anywasies, we've got a street like that, not the one leading out of my school, where people speed down and get into horrible crashes. In the night, either they're too blind, too teenaged, or too drunk to see that it curves, and they take the curve too far, overcorrect and crash. Bad, but it's difficult to feel sympathy towards a drunk driver.

I agree. I've been in a motorcycle accident, not quite a crash, but a van cut in front of us, we couldn't stop in time and both my mother and I went into the ditch. I landed on my head, and if it wasn't for my helmet, I could have been in some serious trouble. Of course, this was before I started posting here, so no one would have known the difference. ^_^

I live in Portland, OR. It snowed today. I saw five crashes happen, and my girlfriend's car got hit while she was driving. One of the guy's at work got his car smashed to hell (apparently he's okay). Most of the F-bombs were reserved for people driving like idiots who weren't yet in accidents, though.

Lady Toad is unharmed and so is her car. She has one of those 5mph bumpers. And so does her car.

That's a fairly personal question, eh? You did have snow, but I stole it all. Yarly.

Here is a pic of Lady Toad by the extremely talented Msquared:

So you can judge bumper size from that.

I saw a 10-wheeler slide sideways and smash into a guardrail on the expressway. I've also seen two trucks spin out and flip end over end in front of me.

I've done three 360's and ended up facing an 18 wheel rig that was sliding at me.

Car wrecks are far more fun when you're not involved.
