Help Robin Out with a school project!

Post by Robin Pierce »

I need a set of statistics for a Business assignment revolving around comics, and I’d appreciate the help. Thus:

If a webcomic you loved were to start releasing compilation issues of roughly 30 pages per, and sold them for about two euros (three USD, 1 pound), would you purchase them?

(Created in OT because more people’ll look at it here, and I need a large representative sample)

Thank’s for helpin’ out!

Poll ends sunday, but the sooner the better <3

I voted Yes, but a proviso.

It would have to be a comic I really, really loved. I haven't collected comic books in a very long time.

I suspect your poll will be skewed by the people who already collect comic books, who would be more likely to buy an additional comic book.

Do you need any more info? Like by gender, age, income, political affiliation, height, weight, eye color, hair color, show size, favorite color, soda preference, ethnic heritage, religious affiliation, towing capacity?

Cause if you really want a good poll, more info means more charts you can draw abstract conclusions from, often containing numerous fallacies with which to sway the clueless observer.

And yes, I voted.

Since the target market is comic users in the first place, that's not so much an issue. Plus it's a small project.

If i were doing a poll on comic readers vs non comic readers, I wouldn't be doing a poll on Comic genesis. XD

I also voted 'yes', assuming we're not talking more than 6-8 issues per year. :)

per year? per month? per week?

It would depend on the time frame for me. You forgot a word in your initial post.

Go with the original post. It isn't meant to be an overcomplicated question with all sorts of conditions. just the way it is.

That word threw me off. It suggested to me that you forgot to add in the time bit. per week, per month, per year, etc.

Since the question is as it is, okay. Yes, I would buy them like i said i wanted to buy darkens first one. NO ONE SAVED ME A COPY. RARGH. OUTRAGE.

etc.

I think shipping would be an issue, and can sometimes cost more than the product itself. Unless I was AT a convention, I probably wouldn't buy it online unless it was more of a book.

Indeed, I voted for no. If the comic's available online, there's really no reason to buy the strips UNLESS the book offered some more content (like how I will be releasing a collection of the first six issues of Lightbringer, but with improved artwork/text/additional content).

I could see stinky drawing all that...including the part that it's in your head.

I'd say yes, but that depends if the comic is of good value or not.

I voted yes, on the basis that I can download all of Red vs Blue for free yet I still buy every season on dvd.

It'd need to be a comic I really loved, though, and I'd be especially likely to buy if the books contained a) original content (new stories/shorts) b) were clearly lovingly made (I'm reluctant to buy books from online presses I haven't experienced the quality of. I bought a book from Plan 9 that has some HUGE editing errors. The author deserved better), or c) had some sort of extra included (even if it's just a random note from the author, some old sketches, some behind the scenes stuff, etc. With dvds, I'm a sucker for commentary).

I'd definitely buy it if I liked the comic and the shipping costs weren't astronomical.

For a normal distribution, you need 30 or more respondants. You also need to know that this sample from the population is unbiased - if it's the population of webcomic artists then you're ok. If it's the general population, your statistics won't mean much.
