How long did it take for your comic to get popular?

No one in my family seems to understand my comic, and for that I am grateful.

My husband reads my comic at work, and his office manager reads it too.

And to get back on topic: talking about feeling like a success when you get something from a fan, my daughter's sketchbook has lots of pics of my main character, Zelda, in it. *warm fuzzies* (I'm quite popular with pre-teens who live at my address. HAHAHA!)

My family reads my comic, at least my dad does. He also reads Reckless Youth. I'm just damn glad he doesn't ask me about what I'm trying to convey, because I really HATE discussing that sort of thing to people face to face.

He won't give me back my copy of "Dr. Joey".

I'm averaging about 330 uniques per day, a year ago I was averaging 150 per day, I think having other comics that ARE popular (uniques in the 5000 per day or so range) that are friends with you and are willing to put references and links to you in their comics help

Yeah, that's quite cool, actually. I get kids in the room occasionally turning up with pictures of the strip kids. Every now and then I even overhear them quoting some of the lines from the strip itself...nice.

So yeah, guess it's popular in a very closed in little area.

one of my friends made me a shirt with some artwork from my comic on it for my birthday.

junkRIOT was around for a few years and at the end I was getting about 900 visits a day. Now that's it's over I get about 200 and my new comic gets about 200 as well. Nice to see the people followed me

I'm getting about 80 a day now; I've had my site since February of last year but have only been doing original material and really promoting it for a couple of months, so I think that's respectable. My daily visits have been going up steadily since September so that's good.

My mother, my sister, and some of my co-workers all read my comic. I don't let my students see it because then I'd have to self-censor. I mean, it's fun to shock my mother with a sodomy joke or a link to Toy Division every once in a while, but if one of my students saw that it'd be angry phone calls from mothers for a week.

I had fans... I've been lax updating this month since I have winter break.... But Um...I think I still have 3-4 vocal fans on my site. I'm not really keen on popularity though, I'd rather just keep underground...

These numbers don't really tell me much, but hundreds of visitors per day sounds like much. Congratulations, I guess.

I've never thought much about how many people reads WBK. Since we're hosted att Atspace, there's no way of knowing. And we don't even have a counter.

Or, wait, am I wrong in assuming that comics hosted here at comicgenesis have built in... er, stuff, that keeps track of traffic? Are there other ways?

The only thing we have to go on is how many fans and hits we have at OnlineComics.com. We have 120 fans there, including a family member, a close friend and at lest one bot... It's been like that for a while. Having 120 fans is pretty cool, though.

Oh, and we did get one fan mail!

EDIT: Yeah, and we've been around for a little over one year...

No, your assumption is quite correct; we have built-in Webaliser stats.

Are there other ways?

You can use third-party counters like Statcounter, Extreme Tracking and Sitemeter. They'll generally require you to add special code to the pages you want tracked.

It would be more than angry moms for me. I'd get fired or put on suspension. After seeing the case of the Richmond teacher who got suspended for being a "Butt Artist"...gah...

as for my site, it's coming up on 4 months old and I get about 130 visits per day now. I would like to say it's the snazzy writing, or the awesome storyline...but I suspect it is the frontal artistic nudity. I dunno.

I dont rank myself "popular", but it does feel pretty good when someone emails you saying how awesome your stuff is. I even have a fanboy now from overseas...and he's cute too! (he could be lying though...he probably sent me a picture of his cousin)

I just wanted to post my appreciation for this comment. I am reading the forum while sipping my coffee in the early AM and the chuckle woke me up a bit. (And the mental image of my husband when I tell him I need to "make more fans" to increase my demographic.)

i honestly can't remember when i passed 500 visits a day, it was a while ago, maybe two years into making the comic, since then it's been increaseing quite a bit. it's fairly steady now though.
