Should we be advertising this?

Should we be advertising this?

Erm, a website that helps college students download essays?

Maybe it's just that I recently read an article on my campus newspaper about this sort of cheating being on the rise, but, it kinda makes me uneasy that this is advertised.

meh, I'm sure it's just me being paranoid.

Damn it, where was this site when I needed to discuss Spencer and Gillens' statement of the Aborigine being a true nomad?

Well, cheating in college or high school isn't illegal. It's against the rules and there is punishment for when you get caught, but it's not illegal.

I can understand using essays as a reference as long as you cite them in your bibliography, but damn.

And some essays are copyrighted, so misrepresenting authorship could possibly land you in some serious shit.

It could also be said to be morally dubious to advertise J-List, but it's really up to the individual if they want to buy that Hello Kitty dutch wife.

That said, only an idiot would buy a paper from one of these sites. The risks aren't worth the reward.

Wasn't really worried about the legal ramifications, more of the ethical ones. Though, I suppose that could be countered with "Comicgenesis isn't responsible to give people a code of ethics."

ah well.

From the site's FAQ, at least, they say to only use the papers as references and not to turn them in as your own. Yeah, it's a load of ass-covering, but still it isn't the site's or advertiser's fault if someone's dumb enough to turn in a paper they downloaded.

Even if it may not be illegal in college, if you get caught, you'd be expelled. Which would really suck considering how expensive college is, and not worth the risk unless you were planning on dropping out anyway.

I've never understood why anyone would commit plagiarism on a college essay anyway. The temporary stress of sitting your butt down to do research and writing is far less than the stress you'll experience for the rest of your college life wondering what will happen if you're caught.

Panic. Panic makes people do things that they regret later.

And of course, college students always make their life-choices based solely on icy rationality.

It's a back massager! A back massager!

But yeah, anyone who plaguarizes a college paper, much less buys a canned essay off an Internet site, gets everything they deserve. And plaguarism is almost always really, really easy for an experienced professor to catch.

But copyright infringement is illegal.

But if you dropped every ad for a product or service you could do something illegal with if you tried there would be very few ads left.

For example: "8 top cigars for only $10." You could give those cigars to minors, which would be illegal. You could smoke them on an airplane, which I'm pretty sure is illegal. You could cram them down someone's throat so they choke to death, which is definitely illegal.

Seriously 'though, any ad with a cute girl in it is fine by me.

Yeah, and people who download MP3 also erase it after 24 hours.

You're like me, that way Cort, I never thought that stress over the risk of being caught was worth cheating, but there are people so self-confident that they don't bother thinking about that possibility, and if being caught act as if they had all the rights to do it.

Why do I sense deja vu. I could have sworn we were talking about copyright infringement and taking credit for work you didn't do only last week. Oh right we were http://forums.comicgenesis.com/viewtopic.php?t=78114 (NSFW)

well there is.

Moral issues about accepting this as a paying advertisement, amusing stories by people who got away with it, amusing stories by people who got caught, does anyone ACTUALLY use these, general opinions stuff, you know.

Well blame the third party advertiser that is accepting them. CG just hosts a piece of code that displays whatever the third party advertiser decides to throw at us, and sometimes it's like 8 advertisers deep, and some third parties are dispicable (like the flashing YOU WON!) and accept everything. Sleezy bastards.

Could be worse, I hate to wonder what goes through a movie directors mind when they are required to show X close up shots of a product. Gawds that was one of the things that I couldn't take serious with the Tomb Raider movies. It made more sense in Back to the Future (which incidently in one commentary track, they talk about their sleazy product placement salesman for a few minutes) since it was a good way to show how things changed or didn't change between time travels.

Personally, anyone who tries to pass off any work they didn't do deserves the most cruelest fitting punishment. IE, you copy something and try to take credit/profit for it, you should be sued out of existance. If you try to get ahead in school, you should auto-fail the course and be barred from taking it again for one year, thereby royally screwing you if you were due to graduate soon.
