The ENTIRE POINT being made is that TRACING SOMETHING YOU DID NOT DO AND TAKING CREDIT FOR IT IS NOT LEGAL.
Only if you try to make money off it or try to officially claim or copyright it as your own...even then it's pretty iffy since pro-artists do it all the time. Posting some drawing in an amateur sketch thread on a messageboard without mentioning that you copied the pose isn't illegal...that's ridiculous.

Plus she admitted she copied, she just doesn't admit she directly traced...which nobody here can prove either way. This whole argument is about nothing.

Not so. They'll care more if you make money out of it, and are more likely to come after you then, but it's illegal either way.

Which she was. Copyright is granted by the act of creation. She claimed she created the picture and in doing so, claimed copyright.

1. We have proven that she traced. Did you see the image Keff posted earlier, where one image is placed transparent over the other image?

2. You might have noticed, we aren't legaly prosecuting her. So it's "just" tracing for purposes of creating art she doesn't get paid for, but then again, so is this "just" a verbal conflict. And rather civil verbal conflict too.

3. Whenever you try to defend her with such questionable arguements, you are prompting several people to reply to you. This thing would've calmed down pages ago if there wasn't for people trying to defend her. And frankly I don't think she cares for defence. She isn't even checking the thread anymore. Those who reply to you are arguing with you now, not with her.

Jessica, don't get discouraged. Take this as one of life's lessons. We'd much rather see your original work than traced work. If you are not pleased with it you'll get better over time as you continue to draw. If you trace you won't develop as fast artistically. I understand why you did what you did (when I was younger I'd loosely trace stuff, too) and try to pass it off as my own. And it's embarrassing as hell when your busted. But I learned and grew and am happy with my development.
