The Comic Genesis Pot Luck!
Actually... here's a stupid little contest/idea/whatever we wanna make of it thing I'd like to do: A cooking thread!
Basically, you either post your favouritefoods (yes, you can even tell us how you make it), or show a comic where characters are cooking.
Please note that the above "or" is an inclusive "or", so you can post all three answers if you like... it does not have to be all on the same post.
I'll start:
Some Food(s) I Like: Raisin Bran, Pho, Sandwiches, Schnitzel.
Recipe: Noodle Soup
Ingredients: Lentils, Onions, Celery, Garlic, Frozen Veggies, Beef Shank (or whatever meat), Cheese, Salt, Pepper, General Mix of Spices/Seasoning, Egg Noodles, Wine, Maggi Sauce/Soy Sauce
Chop lentils, onions, and celery to small pieces. Boil a pot of water - add lentils, onions, celery, and beef shank, add crushed/chopped garlic. Stir and add the spices/salt/pepper/wine/maggi sauce throughout the whole cooking process (as much as you want!).
Cook 30 minutes. Remove meat, chop to cubes, put it back in soup, dump frozen veggies.
Cook another 30 minutes, dump in the egg noodles, stir a bit. Cook an extra 20-30 minutes. Soup's done!
Sprinkle the soup with cheese (mozzarella is good) and eat with some bread if desired.

Damn, there was something I was cooking the other day and thought, "I wish the CG Chef thread was still up, this would be perfect!" But I can't remember what it was.
Anyway, here's a recipe that I've been using for most meals lately:
1: Get in car
2: Drive to restaurant
3: Order something tasty to go
4: Drive home/or back to work
5: Eat

5 minute recipes I love-
mmmm quesadillas
1) start warming frying pan on burner
2) shred your choice of cheeses + maybe other ingredients like onions, pepper and/or tomato
3) open package of tortillas
4) if adding anything other than cheese, fry those ingredients now to get some of the juices out. this is important because simply putting the ingredients raw into your quesadilla will make it soggy. (this goes for most recipes I have- raw tomatoes on a pizza ruin it, but sun-dried are excellent.)
4) put tortilla flat on frying pan
5) layer THINLY cheeses + additional ingredients, now warmed and dried a touch on HALF of the tortilla
6) fold other half onto the half with the ingredients
7) flip a couple times until cheese is melted and both sides browned.
8) serve with sour creme and salsa
mmm perogies
1) open package of premade perogies- may be hard to find a good brand, but western new york has many you can try.
2) begin boiling perogies while preparing to fry
3) begin warming butter/vegetable oil/your choice of fatty semi-solid in frying pan
4) slice into fry onions, mushrooms and fake steak bitties (you omnivores probably want real steak, but I recommend everyone at least try Morning Star brand meal starters. in fact, anything Morning Star makes you should try. their "chick" patties are amazing, everyone who's tried them tells me they're much better than real chicken patties.)
5) when perogies start to float in boil, drain in colander
6) shake perogies dry then pour into fry
7) when browned, serve
mmm stuffed shells
1) begin preparing about 45 minutes before you'll be hungry
2) heat oven to 450
3) open package of stuffed shells
4) layer shells in roaster pan with tomato sauce- you'll want the sauce to coat the shells, with a layer between the shells and the pan to keep shells from cooking to pan.
5) when oven up to temperature, pop pan into oven and heat for about 30 minutes, shells should come out a touch overcooked- not burnt, but a little crispy in exposed areas.
mmm cheese sauce
1)shred your choice of cheese
2) brown a little flour- this'll cut the flour's "taste" while keeping texture (flour doesn't really have a taste, but everyone knows when someone has used too much)
3) begin heating milk over burner.
4) when it starts to get warm, add browned flour
5) milk/flour mix should be a little thick with no chunks on unstirred flour
6) add shredded cheeses and some canned cheese salsa/ "cold pack cheese food" (Helluva Good brand from Sodus NY makes a great semi-solid cheese)
7) sauce should be thick, but not so thick it doesn't move. serve over macoroni, toasted bread, or anything really. not cereal. well, maybe cherrioes...

Standard cooking practice for me:
1) Buy salad dressings and barbecue sauces.
2) Buy various types of meats.
3) Place each type of meat into a different Tupperware container.
4) Pour one of the salad dressings or barbecue sauces over meat into container, coating entirety of meat.
5) Place in refrigerator.
6) Forget about meats.
7) Return several days later and grill one of the meats.
8) Mmmmmm.
Any time I see salad dressings on sale for real cheap, I pick them up for that reason. I have about 4 in my fridge in various states of use.

Wow! I am definitely going to try some of these!
Here's Samantha's Easy Chili. Perfect for working folk who don't like a lot of prep time:
1lb ground beef, browned and drained
1 packet of TACO seasoning mix
1 can of your favorite kind of beans, drained (I switch between big red kidney beans, black beans and chili beans, depending on my mood)
1 can of canned tomatoes (if you get the ones that come with peppers in it, that's a bonus)
Put all in stock pot and let simmer for at least an hour. My favorite way is to put it all in the slowcooker and let it go all afternoon. If you put it in the stock pot, be sure to stir it occassionally.
When ready, top with grated cheese (usually cheddar) and sour cream and serve with tortilla chips or cornbread.
This is perfect for taco salads, too.

Wow, I missed that. Coo, quisadillas!
Simple dirt cheap but tasty bean burritos -
Get 2 cans of refried beans - $0.99 x 2 = $1.98
Get a jar of salsa - $1.29
Get a bag of shredded cheese - $2.29 (I get 2% cheese on sale)
Get a container of sour cream - $1.09
Get a bag of 20 small tortillas - $2.29
Warm the refried beans in the microwave. Do one can at a time; it'll make roughly 8-10 tortillas.
Put a tortilla flat on the plate. Add refried beans. sprinkle with cheese. Microwave 30 seconds.
Add sour cream and salsa. Fold. Eat. Repeat
20 burritos - $8.94. Roughly $0.44 a burrito.

Beef stroganoff aka grey junk!
- Ingredients
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 container sour cream
- flour
- 1 can beef broth
- black pepper
- Rice or your favorite kind of pasta. Wide egg noodles work best for pasta.
- Cooking
- Brown the ground beef in a pan.
- Drain fat until about 1/4 of a cup remains in pan.
- Turn off heat.
- Add flour until there is no more loose fat and the ground beef is nice and thick. This will probably be more flour than you thought you needed. Make sure to not add too much at a time or else you'll get flour lumps.
- Add beef broth and pepper, stir in well.
- Add sour cream by the spoonful, mixing it in until you've achieved the proper grey color and there's no fat floating around loose.
- Serve over pasta or rice.
