Well it does have a gun in it...that automatically makes anything a little cooler.

Denial is not falsification. You can't avoid a fact just because you don't like it.

Give her a break. Bullets move pretty fast.
I was thinking that too. You'd only react if you knew someone was going to be shooting at you in a second. If you were, say, being shot at by a sniper or someone you thought was holding a toy gun you certainly wouldn't be dodging and flinching and all that when the bullet got to you.

For all we know she just happened to be taking her gun out as she was entering a suspicious-looking building when someone suddenly took a shot at her from behind some bushes.

Or you could just be really really really stoic, or insane, or a robot or something. (Don't tell me you haven't seen those angles used somewhere.)

Even then it could make a cool scene but it'd need a bit more: It would still need the bullet to be more obvious. Plus it would need some extra frames: to show whether or not the shot was expected, and to show whatever reaction comes afterwards.

Although truthfully I think the hero-being-grazed-by-a-bullet scene has been done to death anyway, so even a really well executed one only ranks a six on my coolness scale.

Yeah, the Matrix-bullet stuff has really gotten old quickly. One way to indicate gunshots is to illustrate the objects around the person being hit or destroyed. I think it emphasizes the speed, and also adds some flying debris to add to the action.

Brad Bird, in a lot of his corrective notes likes to talk about changing the location of the horizon lines to bring people into the shots. He tends to like it better if the horizon line is lower rather than right in the middle. And when you compare them side-to-side you really see the difference.

Most of what has been said is pretty close to the mark. I tend to agree with the statement that good art/perspective/lighting/etc tends to make for a generally cooler overall first impression, but as Joel said, I have a harder time presenting such things than, to use a random* example, War. I certainly strive for it, but not there yet.

Also, for the little details, such as the bullet, or the clipped hair, I sometimes have a hard time worrying whether or not someone else will notice it. After all, I know it's there, why wouldn't they? :-? Anyway, thanks for the thoughts. Appreciate 'em.

Oh, I could never do that. Sam would never wear sunglasses. They might interfere with her night vision.

The chances of Sam voluntarily submitting to and untested procedure designed to physically alter the senses are slightly less than the chances of MTV playing more than 15 minutes of music in a single given week.

Seeing as Sam is a member of a team, the sole purpose of which is to guard a stationary rift in the barriers of the dimensions, that would be kind of silly.

Ok, Ive been away from the forums for awhile, so if that's a cg in joke of some kind, I don't get it. If it's not...I still don't get it.

What is "zam"?
