The autumn foliage??? WAIT TIME OUT!!!
Okay, we went through this once, but let's try again...
Exactly when did Quentyn encounter the soothstone?
Exactly when did he get his first assignment?
Exactly when did he go to Sanctuary City?
Exactly when did he return from Sanctuary City?
Exactly when did he leave the Seven Villages?
As I recall, it was about a year from the soothstone to leaving the Seven Villages. Since he was selling early melons that day, it was spring or early summer.
So, how can we possibly have autumn foliage????

Well remember, the Rac'Conans do have control over the weather in their land. We've never seen them go through winter or fall. It's a constant green grass blue sky with mostly rain, always summer-spring weather. I'd think their 'seasons' are a little different than ours with that kind of fertility.

Hi, folks. I completed something of a trek of my own to get to this forum. Good thing I have more than a passing interest in TotQ.
As with nearly all forums I've joined, I already read thru the archives. Nevertheless, I'd forgotten that bit about weather control. Thanks, RS.
Regarding the colors, I first thought they were on a volcano. But Sam would not be chilly in that case.

welcome Deckard Canine to the forums.
we have a few rules here.
first, be sure to hang up your sanity on the coat rack on the way in and don't fret if it's already run away when you leave.
and whatever you do. do not feed Solidus, especially after midnight NEVER FEED SOLIDUS AFTER MIDNIGHT...

Welcome Deckard! I see you've already been told most of the safty prectoutions. I would also like to add that flamible objects should also be kept away from several of use for all our sakes!

I sat down and calculated it up.
At earliest, the first harvest from a watermelon patch is early June....
So my estimate placed his departure somewhere in the end of October to the beginning of November. The balmy climate inside the mistwall (or one should say under the mistwall DOME) would have delayed the colorchanging of the leaves, if not prevented it entirely.... personally I think he's a little oblivious to the change in the weather. When you come from a place where "colder weather" means "some rookie fiddled with the thermostat," you'd tend to disregard worsening weather as a momentary inconvenience. Besides, he has a nice fur coat, so wouldnt notice the cold as much.

The better to be surprised when the snow starts falling and the temperature drops to -5C...

It is. Partially.
But an unduly long Indian summer can delay it... and the weather changes, as I recall, can alter how brilliant or dull the coloration is. (A sudden cold snap supposedly brings out the brightest colors, as I recall... tho take that with a grain of salt.)

Actually that makes me curious.....(which, by the way, the colors are absolutely GORGEGOUS!)......what kind of climate is Quentyn in now? Temperate? Mountains? I know (at least for now) that Aireth is not Earth but could you give a a similar locational climate that Quentyn is in? (Like, for instance, is he in area similar to Pennslyvania or Colorado? Just curious... Seems to be slightly mountainous area that has a cold, wet Fall (with lot of freezing rain *brrrrrrr) before winter really sets in. Am I right or totally off base?

He risk to be indeed surprised but when the temperature will drop to -20C or -39C (the actual record in my place) with a powerful wind. Surprise will leave for the terror to not survive to the winter. This season is usually without pity for the ones who aren't prepared to it.BrockthePaine wrote:The better to be surprised when the snow starts falling and the temperature drops to -5C...

Which is interesting as where I live just went cold enough for the first snow of the season.RHJunior wrote:(A sudden cold snap supposedly brings out the brightest colors, as I recall... tho take that with a grain of salt.)
According to Ralph's CDs (and IIRC), Antillia is located in southern central Asia, roughly corresponding to western or southwestern China.Madmoonie wrote:Actually that makes me curious... <snip> what kind of climate is Quentyn in now? Temperate? Mountains? <snip>
From the deciduous trees - particularly with the color changes - this is a temperate zone. He's come out of the mountains (pines preferring colder climes).

Well, just 'cause the continents resemble Pangea doesn't mean everything transfers over to Aerith... though on the map, it still looks like Antillia would sit around, say, 15-25 degrees North latitude.Earl McClaw wrote:According to Ralph's CDs (and IIRC), Antillia is located in southern central Asia, roughly corresponding to western or southwestern China.

The changing of the colors and falling off of the leaves is indeed, in most cases, mostly controlled by the relative amounts of daylight/darkness, but not entirely. Plants can also react to changes in temperature, soil content, and the availability of water (among other things).
So yeah, it's possible that controlling the weather could delay (though I doubt prevent) the plants' reaction, if the indigenous trees happen to be of the correct variety.

From what I can see, yes. Her skin is one color, her cape and pants are another, and her leggings and cape lining are a third. She's well covered. (And this from someone who's worn a heavy wool cape in snow conditions. It's quite comfortable so long as you don't capture the wind.)
