Why would you assume that the creator is from a southern state? (And southern state of what? Europe? Mexico? Canada? The US?)EvilChihuahua wrote:Stuff like this....this is crap. You all know it. Heh. These weren't quite so manga-ised the last time I read them.
Now that I can believe, especially after having old people next door play that infernal sound at A GAJILLION DECIBELS.TRI wrote:You think that's impressive? The vineyard is the church that all the other churces roll their eyes about because we listen to "dev1l music" as part of worship. I.E, electic guitar-driven worship music, So maybe all the other churches are this dumb) Please dont group us with him. I couldn't stand the embarrasment.
I actually take this as a personal insult. This guy thinks that I'm so media-saturated, I can't learn anything unless it's in comic-book form. [/i]

But you know that the fiction is bad when the Christian and the athiest both hate it. (I read the Left Behind series when I was foruteen and liked it. I out grew it pretty quickly. And the excerpts from "Glorious Appearing" have permanently cured me of any desire to pick the series back up.)

Eee! Randi! I like that man. Saw him give a talk once. He's quite good. Debunks a lot of psychic stuff, goes after televangilists who seem to know things about people, etc. Don't think he's against religion, just exploiting people by using claims of supernatural powers. At least from my understanding.
James Randi is very against religion. He thinks it keeps humanity from reaching its potential and says so in as many words at the end of "The Faith Healers."MixedMyth wrote:Don't think he's against religion, just exploiting people by using claims of supernatural powers. Yeah, he aims his guns at psychics and paranormal experts more squarely, but he rejects religion on the same grounds. But when he does go after that, it seems to be a matter of going after openly exploitive religious figures.Caduceus wrote:James Randi is very against religion. Also the cartoonist is OBVIOUSLY a southerner because the southern hemisphere is full of ignorant prejudice. And delicious, delicious irony.

I like Randi. Obviously, I don't agree with the "RELIGION IS BAD" part, but he's good at poking at the bad stuff. Christianity has lots of very bad people in it, and he's one of the few people willing to call them liars to their faces. I think it sucks that Christians should be dependant on the athiests to take care of the bad guys for us, but we are.
If a psychic ever tries to "sell" me on their services, I'm going to tell them all about Randi's Million Dollar Prize, and then watch them have an apopaleptic fit on the spot.
He also really makes you think before you trust something. Which is good.
Also cool is Penn and Teller. They have a series called Bullsh*t, where they basically go after everything from bottled water to mother theresa to image-of-virgin-mary-on-grilled-cheese-sandwich. and you can find a lot of the episodes on Google video. Like I said, I don't agree with everything they say, but skepticism is a good thing to foster in today's world.

They have a couple really good episodes. I'm glad they show the credentials of their interviews.PeppermintAfterlife wrote:Bullshit is an interesting show.
The one about College is really poignant for where I go to school. It's on a list of schools that have 1st Amendment problems.

Heh. I spend most of my day reading Christian books, and there's lots of them that are winful. Of course, it's only the psychopathic ones that people pay any attention to.christwriter wrote:I do not understand why it is so FREAKING HARD for a Christain to write something for NON CHRISTIANS about Christianity that would be able to present the whole thing rationally, or for a Christian to write fiction that's actually worth the paper it's printed on. You know, that's a little deeper than a mud puddle. I mean...we're supposed to believe this is the best, most beautiful, most real thing in existance. Why is THIS the best we can come up with?

I love how they classify homosexuality and evolution with drugs and school violence.
