Fine, but can you not make a mess when you do it? I just cleaned this damn place.
And you'd better not mess with my crater either!

I remember those. When I was a little kid, I found them to be an annoying interruption in the usual endless hilarity that I found in Garfield.

Now, I see them as an awkward stab at creativity by an author who doesn't really draw much respect from me anymore. Oh how time can change a person.

That truly was disturbing.

I checked the Wiki article and it no longer features that specific text is not featured. It says Davis denies all theories and was just trying to do a creepy Halloween story.

That's all? Whew.

That creeped me out. I lost a night's sleep thinking about it.

Maddox saying that Garfield sucks is like Marmaduke hating on Ziggy.

I think it's funny that people are talking about something that happened seventeen years ago like it's been hidden from the public eye for that long. I suppose as Garfield hatred increses, so does general awareness of Garfield. Bit of a double-edged sword, in a sense.

The phrase, "General Awareness of Garfiled" made me laugh.

People are just talking about it now because the strips are so old and only dorks had the internet back then. One has to dig through a mighty archive to find them.

I also remember reading those in an old treasury book, back from when Garfield was still fun to read...

I would like to agree with what has been said already, obviously Jim Davis was taking a break from his routine and trying something a little different for Halloween. I personally thought it was kind of a neat thing for him to attempt.

But just so I add something new to the discussion (or what's left of it) I would like to quote from what Jim Davis said about this series in the 20th anniversary book: "During a writing session for Halloween, I got the idea for a decidedly different series of strips. I wanted to scare people. And what do people fear the most? Why, being alone. We carried the concept out to it's original conclusion and got a lot of responses from readers."

Oh, and one other thing; Wikipedia is probably the least authorative expert on anything.

I -think- I've seen that one before, but am unsure. Either way, I laughed out loud, quite loudly and scared my kitten sleeping on the couch arm next to my head, who then reacted by jumping to attention, batting my face furiously (without claws, it knows better) and then running like hell. I -think- she's hiding in the closet right now, under her pile of blankets that she hides under whenever she gets scared, confused, hungry, lonely, annoyed, etc, etc.

It was posted here once. Like diarrhea, "I hate Garfield" threads pop up every few months.

I think it's just internet. Internet has ability to dig out old stuff and surround them with some sort of cult. Like old G.I. Joe cartoons and stuff.
