There is also enough evidence to suggest that a warlord named Artorius, a Romanized Celt of unknown parentage (Arthur is the one Celtic hero we know of who doesn't brag of his heroic background) was a key figure in the war against Germanic invaders. He was a pagan, probably a Mithraist, since the earliest Christian references to him are as an enemy of God. He probably died in Brittany, trying to cut off the Anglo-Saxon invaders at the Continental source.
