Questions for Cheyenne

Post by Corgi »

I've got a few:

* What's your typical workday like? I know you've got more going on than AT and GG, obviously; do you timeshare between projects, or do you just narrow down on one until it's done?

* What's your favourite thing or body part [glares at giggling fanboys] to draw?

* Did you know your Cast List image links are broken?

I'm lucky, in that I get to do art 100% of the time, and I get to do all of it from home. Not alot of artists make it that far. Coloring Girl Genius is great steady work that pays my bills.

My day usualy goes like this...

I get up around 10 am (on a good day) -- if it's a crunch day (Sun,Tue,Thurs) I'll get to work finishing the next GG page this takes about 5 hours depending on how much I did the night before.

I aim to be done by 3 pm. After sending Phil and Kaja a low-rez copy via email (and getting the thumbs up on it) I zip up the page and upload it to their server. Then it's time to noddle out a thumbnail of the next ArcaneTimes or draw/ink one of the other freelance things I do -- currently I'm designing a set of miniatures for a new pre-painted table-top game.

I do this till about 7 or 8 pm -- then it's dinnertime and I'll either watch something recorded on my sweeeeeet DVR (100 gig harddrive and DVD burner) or pop in the latest Netflix (we are making our way though Veronica Mars season 1 right now).

By 11pm I'm back at the computer either preping the next peice or reading Forums.

ArcaneTimes itself never seems to get drawn untill Sunday around 1 or 2 in the morning. Eli will have gone to sleep by then. I'll pop in the soundtrack to "the Day the Earth Stood Still" and then use my Staedtler draftmans pencil with a 5h lead to layout the full size version of the strip at 10in by 13in. I usualy won't ink it the same night however, I save that till the next morning when I'm wide awake.

Either way, I crawl back in bed 'round 4am and go to sleep.

Thanks!

I commend you on your luck and career-building, sir. That is fortunate.

Hey, I wouldn't be at all surprised if that'd been your serious answer. Aside from the whole 'you're a guy' thing, my mother graduated from Mass Art and she said she always liked drawing breasts best in Life Drawing because of the curves and shading.

Your hormones, of course, may vary.

Oh, one more thing I forgot to include before the other guys get a crack at you:

* You probably get this a lot, but here it is again: where or how or why did you get your fairly unusual and distinctive given name?

My parents met on the corner of Haight and Ashbury in San Francisco in the summer of 1969 -- Classic hippies with classic hippie friends. The kids I grew up with had names like, Lotus, Trebor, Goldberry, Oloro, Thorin, Summer...

So Cheyenne wasn't too far out of the park -- so to speak

Now-a-days the only Cheyenne's I meet tend to be strippers or porn starlettes (I wouldn't trade it for the world).

What paint programs do you use to color your work?
We are the collective.
We share a single mind.
It is under the table.
Would you like to see it?

I use Photoshop CS2 (version 9.0). I've paired my huge brushlist down to my Top 10 brushes.

with an older 4x6 wacom graphite tablet.

Any words of advice for the young artists out there?
