And I still say the OAV owns. I never got to see most of the TV series - as it was licensed all of, what, 5 eps in? - since I watch everything in Fansub. Thing is, when I was working at Best Buy, I used my Employee Discount to get a limited Edition Volume 1, which came in a case designed to hold all 7 DVD's that is shaped and looks like a leather-bound book. Then I lost that job, and couldn't AFFORD the other 6 volumes ...
Incidentally, the Nenene 'mini-poster' that came with one of those ROD TV volumes is ... yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah. 110% fanservice.
On the upside, if there ever is a large enough gathering of us, I can be counted on to show up with a large volume of choice anime (My DVD collection is still pretty damn large from my BB days, and most people salivate over my Fansub Archive when they see it). You can bet that ROD would be right up there at the top of the pile. Yes, ALL of it.
Ah, someone else who has the same DVD box that I do. ^_^ The coolest part is that it actually has room for *8* disks in it, and the TV series was only 7. This was not originally published in a volume format. Just in case you were not aware of how Manga generally gets published, every week, Manga Publishers put out medium-to-large books with many different series of Manga running in them. These range from the size of a good Cosmo all the way out to the size of a phone book (yeah. Phone book. I've personally handled one of these, it's astounding ... I'd KILL to have publications like that out here in the US ...).
Every week, you'd get a chapter of each of the Mangas currently running in a given publication, and for the most part, the stoy arcs ARE drawn out affairs that may easily cover the better part of 35-40 chapters, interspersed with smaller, 5-10 chapter 'mini arcs' or even the occasional self-contained chapter of 'sidestory'.
R.O.D. has a particularly rich backstory and plotwork, so you should really get used to the fact that ... a given arc is usually going to take the better part of 4 volumes to get done. (If you think that's long, Flame of Recca's got one arc that is easily somewhere around 10 volumes - yes, TEN - in length. YKK is even worse, with arcs that ... well, one could argue that the entire manga is just one long arc, but there's definate sub-arcs in it. Remind me to link you to that - there is no published version in the USA, but the translation is ongoing on the web. I think you'd like it, it's ... interesting.)
Scanlations aren't the easiest thing on the 'net to find ... I have a hard time of it occasionally myself, and I am a heavy consumer of the fan-made market as opposed to the license-made market. Fansubs are actually, somehow, EASIER to find these days. I think it's because there's still far less intrest in the printed medium than in the full multimedia realm (even if that IS changing, it takes time. Don't forget how many years it's taken us to get to the point that series shown in Japan are getting shown or released in the USA inside of 12 months later ...), and I also think it has to do with the fact that it's very easy to GET a raw video stream these days, but to get raw Manga, especially to-date chapters as opposed to full volumes ... well, someone in Japan has to buy it and scan it, and that's clear and obvious copyright infringement over there, whereas anyone in the USA with a bit of tech knowledge can probably catch Japanese Satelite TV signals and rip the eps as they air.However, after roughly 8 years of actively reading this material (has it been that long?), I have taught myself quite a bit.
