Just a long as they don't call it the Nintendo Drive.

I was talking more about Apple than Nintendo. But I just have a grudge against Apple. I don't hate Nintendo. I don't think I ever really could. I just hope they don't become so self-centered that they think that just because they're Nintendo, that automaticly makes anything they do good, without putting forth any effort to make a good product.yeahduff wrote:Sure sold a lot of game consoles, though, didn't he?KittyKatBlack wrote:So was Hitler's marketing strategy. That doesn't make it moral, or right.
Wii is right.

Dunno... They do say that no publicity is bad publicity, such stint could make current Nintendo fans angry, but the controverse around it could make it reach to the audience that otherwise wouldn't be interested in it at all.
See what I mean: If it wasn't for this, I for one wouldn't even know that Nintendo has a new console, nor would I care much.

Well, with Virtual Boy, the Power Glove and the Triforce I think Nintendo has had enough collosal failures in the past to know that they ain't infalliable.KittyKatBlack wrote: I just hope they don't become so self-centered that they think that just because they're Nintendo, that automaticly makes anything they do good, without putting forth any effort to make a good product.

There really are no words for how absurdly terrible of a name this is. Other people have already summed it up better than I could:
"A good name shouldn't need a page's worth of explanation",
"Customers are going to be reluctant to buy a system whose name they're embarassed to say",
and, "If this is the name that they chose, which ones did they reject?"
There have been some people saying that it's a good idea because it's generating a lot of press (even if it's 95% bad), but honestly if you wanted press generation you probably could have chosen a less terrible name. After the press dies down we're still stuck with an abombinably named console on our hands.
I don't even think it's so much Nintendo thinking that they're so clever as them getting sucked into marketing jargon. No doubt someone proposed the name Wii along with the explanation and they thought "wow, look at how long that explanation is! It's brilliant!"
I'm also hoping they'll reveal that they tricked us at E3, but I know they won't. Nintendo has not only a distinguished history of making big mistakes, but also one of never learning from them. This just about takes the cake, though.
I know if they don't change the name, if I ever have to refer to the system anywhere it'll be as "Nintendo's new system", because you really can't have any dignity as a gamer and talk about playing "Wee".

Speaking of "Wii", sounds like what Internet Explorer does:

I guess I just don't get it. The more I think about the name Wii, the more I like it. It's distinct, it looks great written down, makes a nice logo, and within a month of the release no one will think about any juvenile connotations the sound "we" has. It's a better name than PlayStation or SuperNintendo (for god's sakes), and definitely better than it's forerunner, Revolution. I don't see anything absurd about it, and if it turns out to be an April Fool's joke, I'll be disappointed only because it's not actually funny in any way. But really. Is it just the urine thing? What? Explain to me why it sucks so much.
While you're at it, explain to me why I care.

To be honest? We is an adjective. Wii is a noun, because it's a thing. Saying, "Let's play with the Wii." sounds wrong because you dont use an adjecive as the subject of the sentance. So I think the main reason it's not working, dispite the fact that it's easy to joke about, is the fact that it's relationship to We breaks the rules of proper english.yeahduff wrote:I guess I just don't get it. Well JUST before they release it they might change it back or something. All the press, all the sales.Terotrous wrote:There have been some people saying that it's a good idea because it's generating a lot of press (even if it's 95% bad), but honestly if you wanted press generation you probably could have chosen a less terrible name.
