Nintendo is smart... ballsy, but smart.

The people at Nintendo KNOW that they can't compete with Sony and Microsoft in thier game. So instead they're making a ballsy move and inventing thier own game, playing by thier own rules. But that's how Nintendo has typically played the next gen game.

Gamecube couldn't compete with Playstation or XBOX, so instead of trying to they simply realeasd a metric buttload of GC only games. You simply can't play mario, metroid or zelda on a non Nintendo system... they know that.

Nintendo has always played with a lot of balls. They're always trying to be the only people on the market with "X" Sometimes it works (Gameboy DS), sometimes it doesn't (Virtual Boy, anybody?). Wii could fail... the new controler could fail... but it's without question the right move on thier part. They can't be bigger, better, faster... so they'll just be different.

Where is this metric buttload you speak of? I have a GC. They haven't released a single game worth playing on it until the new Zelda game. The last game before that was Resident Evil 4. Which you can now play on PS2. I'm thinking about re-buying it for PS2 because that version also has more features. But at any rate, I had the choice of getting an X-Box or a Gamecube. At the time, I was under the impression that Metal Gear Solid 3 and Resident Evil 4 were going to be gamecube exclusive. Apparently my source of information was wrong. Big time. Now I'm stuck with this box that I barely use, sin't worth trading in, and could be an X-Box getting much more play time than it currently is.

If making people BELIEVE that Nintendo is one step away from having something you need to have because no one else has it, then Nintendo is very good at it. But then they go, "Surprise! We don't have it either! HAHAHA! We make joke! Funny, yes!?" So yeah. The 'wii' is going to have to wait for me, because Nintendo has jerked me around one to many times.

Like thme or not, a good chunk of GC's game library is GC exlculsive... and there's too many Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Donkey Kong and (gasp) Pokemon fans out there to ignore the power that cornered market holds.

I'm not saying I liked them. I'm a PSer to the bone... they know how to put out a halfway decent system and work th emarket and game companies.

The reason for the name Wii is simple... no one's gonna say "wii sucks" they can type it, but sayin git out load is not just bad Englsih, it's self-defacing.

I love my Cube. I don't think it deserves the reputation it has. But with this new name, it's like Nintendo trying to convince me to hate something I want to like.

I'm not qualified to add much to this conversation, being a PS person, myself, so I think I'll just shake my head and laugh. Wii, indeed.

I figured it out.

This is all a ploy leading up to the newest Nintendo Handheld.

The 'mini wii'.

Is it a homophone for a British slang word that means "urine"? Yes. But so is the first-person plural pronoun. If I said, "What are we doing tonight," would you repeat back to me, "What are wee doing tonight? Huh? Huh? Get it?" I would wonder what the hell your problem is, quite frankly.
Fair point.

I'm going to make a commercial that just has a kid running around going "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

NO WAIT!

Me running around and going "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"
"The Nintendo Wii...not playground safe."
*cuts to me knocking two kids off the swings to swing with the wii beside me.*

Or

"DID YOU GO WEE?"
*kid very ashamed ofhimself with pee on his pants."
"The Nintendo Wii...far less embarrasing than wet pants."
or
"The Nintendo Wii...not water proof"

Go to http://www.retrojunk.com and look it up if you don't believe me. Not to mention all the other horrible commericals they had for their products.

As for the 'Wii' itself, I think it's starting to fall into the 'Let's be more like Apple, they know what they're doing!" even though they don't. Their marketing stratagies are the same. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if some ex-apple employee went to work for Nintendo and was like, 'Ok, here's my idea. We'll drop this whole 'revolution' business. That's so 90's. What you need is an 'I'. Because everything cool has an 'I' in it. In fact, let's put TWO I's in there, and make it.... DOUBLE COOL! Yeah. And what goes good with two II's? Well let's see. You've got Mario, so 'Mii'? Nah, that sounds too self centered. We can't be THAT obvious. Hey, you guys did it with Wario! Let's just turn it upsideown. "Wii". YES! IT'S BRILLANT!"

Then the whole marketing board, stunned by either loss of brain function, or having the logic center of their brain snapped like a twig, all began clapping incoherantly.

And thus, the 'Wii' was born. :D
Uh, wait. Mac doesn't know how to advertise? Can you even name an MP3 player that isn't an iPod? Even if you can, how many people out there can, do you imagine? Remember what computers looked like before the iMac? The whole Mac vs PC thing is probably the most boring debate in the history of language, but in regards to aesthetics and marketing, c'mon, Mac by about ten miles.

I actually like Wii a whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooole lot better than Revolution. May as well call it Nintendo X-TREME!!!!!!!!! Wii works best written down, I'll admit, but it's no more of juvenile reference to the male organ than PlayStation is.

But hey, I voted against ComicGenesis.

Gasp! D:

I guess I'll get used to...Wii. When I first saw the Revo...Wii's controllers, I was a little shocked too, but they seemed like an interesting idea after I had some time to think about it. Course, people are probably just going to go back to calling it a 'Nintendo' like in the old days. I know I am.

me too. And I still don't much like the name. but with the Wii, or what ever the name is not that important. its mostly how they use the name to get recognition. and trust me, people will not forget 'wii'

Did I mention I too I like Wii a mllion times better than revolution? Because I do.
Saying "Do you want to come to my house and play with the revolution" is pretty lame (Although when it's being delivered you get to say "The revolution is coming!" and be telling the truth).
I assosciate wii more with the Scots "little" definition than urine because I haven't actually used the word wee that way since I was eight or something.
