Music me.

Post by Komiyan »

I've got a long night of drawing ahead of me, and I needs new music. I've got all of I-tune's music store at my disposal, and I'm currently listening to stuff like Reel Big Fish, TMBG, Electric Six and anything loud, with occasional Belle and Sebastian. Someone suggest something new for me!

Well, The Rakes are pretty good. Especially their songs 'Strasbourg' and 'Retreat'.

Crispin Glover . . . therein true insanity lies.
Existence is a series of catastrophes through which everything barely but continually survives.

Hmmn, if you're looking to turn on some background music and focus on drawing, I don't have many good recommendations for you.

If you're looking to explore, though...I have to bring up Song Fight. Song Fight *owns* me.

The concept is simple -- they post a song title, and bands have one week to write and record a song based on that title. Then everyone votes to see whose submission is best. It's amazing how some garage bands can whip out incredible songs in just one week, songs better than any I've heard in popular music for years. They have a huge archive of great music.

Of course, mixed within there is also a lot of crap. So if you go to explore Song Fight, be prepared to spend the evening downloading and trying songs, and then ferretting out more songs from the artists you like. My favorite bands there are Octothorpe, Max the Cat, and Puce...none of which, unfortunately, are in the fights this week. :) This week the smart money is on Deshead, State Shirt, and the ever popular Bjam.

I like...Zwan. *sobs*

I like...Zwan a lot. * sobs more*

I totally love Zwan. *cries a bit more*

I think it's Billy Corgan's best project, and is much better than the Smashing Pumpkins. *breaks down*

-----

Seriously though, I love those guys. Just shameless glam-pop-rock that feels a bit like surf. Give it a shot, yo.

The Buzzcocks.

It's my theory that they are the precursors to the butthole surfers-- not particularily in style but in attitude. Orgasm addict. XD

Edit- PAL: I have a friend who's really into Dream Theater (he actually has a front row seat to see them next week). As luck would have it, his name is also Chris.

I can't really reccomend one group to you, I'm afraid. My tastes are so eclectic that I probably don't have more than a couple of songs from any single artist, and even then, it's mostly stuff from games and anime. :P

Right now, I'm downloading Chrono Symphonic, a remix of tracks from Chrono Trigger. If you like the music from it, it's worth a listen, and since there's no lyrics, it's not very distracting.

problem is that you have to pay attention to the lyrics, and if you are working on something else that requires close attention you need to listen to something else.

Aye there. Definitely some rockage - I downloaded the opening track and it was cool. The ending theme however, has some funky Japanese. :D

Ever heard of Machinae Supremacy?
Some of their work is in my liking, and some of it I really really like.
Particularly the Sidologies (#3 in particular, though, they're not exactly their original work)... Much of their music is downloadable for free...

Sidology 3 - Apex Ultima is the number one most frequently played song on my playlists. I definetly recommend it as being worth a listen.

Really? I hadn't gotten to that one yet, since I'm on dialup

Still, I heard that listening to music in foreign languages helps you concentrate. I guess it's since you don't know and/or don't care what they're saying.
