Cart hunters.

Post by Shishio »

After posting about the possibility of doing one guest comic, (Assuming it's OK, and someone wants to draw it.) I came up with ideas for more.

So, I'm curious to know if there are dedicated cart retrievers in American grocery stores, or if they just occasionally send out someone from another department to get them.

Do they have to wear reflective vests? Do their shopping carts lock?

In the past, "baggers" tend to get the job of retrieving wayward carts (at least where I am). This is apparently a great job in the summer on third shift, and pretty crappy in the winter on ANY shift.

Also, where I am "baggers" are now called "courtesy team members." o_O They wear reflective dayglo green vests when they go outside, and the carts are made to fit together. They are then tied up with this kind of bungee looking thing with a backpack clasp on it.

This looks like a job...for Purvous!

Technically the job title is "courtesy clerk" around here, but everyone just calls them baggers. They retrieve the shopping carts when there is little bagging to be done, and they're also called upon to do all the janitorial work.

I put in some time as a bagger back in the day, and I didn't much care for it to say the least.

Ohh and at really big places like super Wal-marts they have these motors that drive an ass load of carts all at one time my buddy said his record was 110 carts at one time. the bungee thing ugh can you imagine if that thing broke while ou were pushing carts? you'd lose an eye for sure...

If it were a union job, you could probably retire on the settlement you'd get for that lost eye. ^_^

At Wal-Marts around here where I live, there are people whose jobs are specifically to get the carts. Their job is so easy. XD

Yes, but Wal-Mart pulls out the extra-evil tactics to suppress the formation of a union.

Wal-Mart's most likely motivation for doing so is probably that if it were a union job, you could probably retire on the settlement you'd get for that lost eye.
