And now the answer...

Young Molly, while having a cute and cheerful demeanor, was very interested in comic books and super heroes. This made her very popular with geeks, nerds and jocks -- a caustic combination. Problem being was that her interests classified her as a geek herself. She was ostracized by her female peers -- both because she was a geek, and because they were jealous of the attention boys gave her. Given the fact that she was prone to violence or tears if you hurt her feelings (and her classmates were never quite sure which would surface), this was done in a very gentle manner.

So the answer is #2: "She was cute but a total geek, and shunned by her peers".
