The 2006 St. Louis cookout Danceing Thread

Post by Dr Legostar »

I have said it often but I should make an official thread for this i guess. It should be no secret by now that I will be teaching dancing at the cookout. The plan, if this is okay with the kolters, and seems to be, that I'm going to teach a fairly simple Swing lessons followed by a couple of hours of good music to dance to. I also plan on teaching specific other things to people who are interested, but my question is what are people in interested in learning?

I know Pimpette wants to learn how to tango, and I may teach some more advanced swing stuff to those who are interested and in some case have prior experience, I'm talking to you, vort. But what else?

I am familiar enough with Swing (several varieties), Waltz, Foxtrot, Rhumba, Tango, Merengue, basic salsa/mambo, i can kinda polka and I know one swing line dance and one samba line dance.

So what would you guys like to learn?

I took dancing in college. Been a long time and I've forgotten most of it, but at one time in the past I knew how to Foxtrot, Rhumba, and Tango. I wouldn't mind a refresher course. Swing is cool, too -- I have lots of swing music, should I bring some?

i think i'm going to be playing most stuff off my mp3 player on a pair of computer speakers, so if you do bring music, bring a c.d. player too or something. I have a ton of swing music, hours upon hours of it, but more is always good.

I'd love to learn how to swing...

But actually, I think I'll just have to wait and see what kind of condition I'll be in physically, what with jetlag and that.

...

And I also don't know whether I will dare dance! People could see me! :shifty:

Maybe I should wear my Cope fur coat and impersonate him when doing really stupid things...?

And didn't we agree that no photos shall be posted without my consent? Didn't we? Hmm? :shucks:

Let's see... I know one line dance, I once learned a really simple square dance, I can dance in a club with House or some other kind of Techno...

but my preferred method of dancing is headbanging/air guitar.

I may deign to learn some real dancing. But most likely I will chicken out. I know my limits.

Oh yeah, and I can do the funky chicken. Yay for 4th grade production of Grease!

I'll learn anything! I speak just for myself, though, since I don't know about Jim.

You might already have everything I have. :) Let's check -- Big Bad Voodoo Daddy? Cherry Popping Daddies? Brian Seltzer Orchestra? That's all I have in swing. But, uh, I don't own a portable CD player. :)

You know I'm going to be dancing, Lego. And you'd better darn well switch partners, 'cause I'm NOT dancing alone this time!
