Doodles 5: That thread was old, this thread is gold.

This is where past, great threads in the history of our forum go.

Colored now, so not really a doodle. But that doesn't seem to deter anyone else.

Yeah, that's because the "show your pretty art here" thread seems to have gone the way of the dodo.

That said: oooh... pretty art...
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

If that thread was alive now, it'd be full of doodles.

I hate to inject realism into a superhero comic of all things but she's kind of visible for a thief.

And as for the name... something derived from "Scarlet Pimpernel seems appropriate. Or something that suggests that era. Maybe something French.

Don't worry, I'm well aware of her high visibility. It's actually kind of the point. ^_~

Instead of going with the clichéd body armor and skintight outfit that I've seen most high-tech thieves in comic books don, I've decided she WANTS people to recognize her. I want her more akin to the outlandish and boastful thieves featured in Steam Detectives. She'd rather just blow up a bank and get away with as much money as she can than try to sneak in during the dead of night and tiptoe her away around a complex security system.

Not a bad idea, Joel. Scarlet Pimpernel itself is out due to the fact that she's not a hero. Scarlet Baroness, perhaps, due to her choice of aristocratic wardrobe?

Ah, but does she see herself as one?

Not that it matters. The Scarlet Pimpernel was an English aristocrat rescuing the corrupt, arrogant and uncaring aristocrats from France after the people, so fed up with their excesses and disdainful manner, overthrew them.

Historically,* he is a villain, particularly from a democratic perspective.

- Joel Fagin

* Er, not that he's real.

Well, she certainly does not see herself as one, no. She does it for the thrill of the chase and the exultation of victory. ^_~

Despite that, I rather see the Scarlet Pimpernell as a man trying to keep the aristocrats from being guillotined or hung by an angry French populace that'd sooner step on their face than look at them. Yes, by that end result, they eluded justice, but he also saved lives. Not to mention the Pimpernell in the stories never seriously hurt anyone nor did he kill anyone.

A picture of Fatty, for a T-shirt that was a Christmas present for the real-life inspiration of said character.

That picture's fantastic, Bean. Best thing I've seen from you yet. There's a great feeling of depth to it, and that coloring makes the character pop out like crazy. Very solid work.

Yeah. To be honest, this is the first time I've seen the colour actually compliment the art as opposed to trying to overshadow/hide it. It looks far better because of it.

I'm glad to hear that, cause I realise my art isn't much to look at without color. If this piece works then I guess I'm going in a good direction. So thank you greatly for the feedback.

What is the meaning behind this picture? Why is he enthusiastically pumping his arm? What is up with the weird blue highlights? Why is one eye higher up than the other? Those are all very good questions. I will have my secretary get back to you on them.
