I am so worried about college...is it as bad as they say it is? Like, overload of things, people are more judgemental, lost in the crowd, etc....?

Re: Random thought for the day
I personally have heard that people are less judgmental. But I'm in the same boat as you. I'm still a senior in high school.Pravus wrote:I am so worried about college...is it as bad as they say it is? Like, overload of things, people are more judgemental, lost in the crowd, etc....?
But yeah this is a good question that I'd kind of like to see answered as well. :o

This will be different for everyone else, but college is a way better environment. When it comes to work, you get more of it, but you also spend less time in class so it's a lot more independent work. And depending on the size the school you choose to go to, the professors can help you out in an individual basis.
As far as socially, It's hard to say. I went to a college prep high school and I didn't really notice much in the way of cliques and groups of popular kids like you see in movies. Perhaps someone else here that went to a public high school can say more about that. But when I got to college, I didn't notice much of a difference. Like in high school, I was just myself and ended up with the right people, and I still hang out with them to this day (last night, actually). You find out pretty quickly which people you get along with. I noticed that people of the same major will tend to hang out with each other, like the theater crowd and the art people tended to stay with each other. People in the same frats and sororities hang with each other too.

Re: Random thought for the day
College really is the time when you figure out who you are and meet the friends that will last a lifetime. Since college my friends and I have been in each others weddings, at children's births and at times of sorrow and pain. It only gets harder afterwards. Really kids, college is one of the few times when you can experiment and grow personally and academically without the pressures of the professional world. You can screw stuff up and come back the next day.
Time will make you wiser, but you'll never be as creative as that third day of no sleep, hopped up on red bull and NoDoz trying to finish that semester end project.
Man I sound old, but it really is all true. Have fun for christ sake, it's only a piece of paper.

Re: Random thought for the day
By college the people in the "lower" rung of the social ladder figure out the social ladder is meaningless ( we of course always know that, but when you get to college it actually feels true).

College is, in my case at least, the first experience you get running your life. It's 3 or more years guarded freedom to work most of the stupid out of your system. It also gives you a shiny piece of paper that makes getting a job a little easier

Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...
Re: Random thought for the day
I'm really only going to college because I hope it'll be fun. I know that it won't be all fun, and that it's a lot of work, but meh. I kind of like learning anyway.
If I didn't think that way, I'd just start a record store in my town and be done with it.
And if that failed I guess I'd work at a pizza place for the rest of my life. :D

You should probably major in business then. Or minor in it and major in something else.

Re: Random thought for the day
I would like to go to colleg to try and make something of my life. I'm worried in doing that I'll wreck it, but I have to at least try....don't want to be on the sidelines...is that selfish of me? Oh, and you guys are a lot different from my parents. They don't even know the names of there friends from college.
...I hope I have a good experience though...

Re: Random thought for the day
Well, by going to college I doubt I'll end up starting that record shop. I kind of don't want to come back here once I leave.theSuburbanLetdown wrote:You should probably major in business then. Or minor in it and major in something else.
I wouldn't say that's selfish. That's not my goal, but everyone's different. I just want to be happy. I don't really care about money.Pravus wrote:I would like to go to colleg to try and make something of my life. And, like your parents, my parents don't associate with their college friends at all, and haven't since they graduated. They went to two-year schools, though, so that might have something to do with it. Not to mention they're anti-social weirdos.

anti-social- to be the opposite of social; i.e to not interact with people

I threw up water once. Then my vision turned rainbow-colored and I passed out. It was kind of trippy.Pravus wrote:Shit, hate that....I got that once, and threw up water...
