New Job
This is mostly me telling Dennis... I got a job at the local library in the children's section!
I start work on August 16th and I am freaking ecstatic to be quitting Dairy Queen.
You know that fine line between genius and insanity? I tripped over it.

Awww...good for you, Mikki!
My librarian chest is swelling with pride and I'm smiling as I type this.
What kind of work are you doing? We usually hire teens your age to shelve books, answer the phone, stuff like that.
Anyway, congrats on the new job and let us know how it goes.

Re: New Job
Thanks!
Let's see, as the lady wrote on my work permit... I'll be checking out people, reshelving books, helping children, setting up displays... I think that's all...
They use the Pines Library system. It's pretty cool, especially for someone like me who always seems to be after obscure books. Like, my library doesn't have The Island of Dr. Monroe, so they had to get it from some other library in the area. In the some odd years they had the system, I was the first to actually use it. =P
Heh, I found out where everything is by accident yesterday when I went there to look for books on Gypsies. I swear... I looked up and down and all over the place... Their YN section is weird. I got so fustrated because it only went up to 920, then one of my soon to be co-workers showed me this other shelf that had the rest of the 900s on it. I was like "d'oh."
I will definitely be sure to keep you posted on how it goes.

Ummm...I think you mean "The Island of Dr. Moreau", which is the nifty book by H. G. Wells.
Gypsies might be in a few places based on what aspect of them you wish to read about: For example, books about the people themselves would be somewhere in the 940s while books on Gypsy mysticism would be in the 133s.
Yeah, non-fiction can be confusing but you'll get the hang of it.
Anyway, your job description sounds like the same sort of job we hire teens for here. Our Childrens Librarian has an aide but if there's a big kids program going on, any available teen will help out.
Your library system is similar to mine. My library is part of a system of 44 libraries across three counties. We're always exchanging and loaning books to each other. Since we're in central NY, the system is called the "Mid-York System". We also have access to college libraries and out of state libraries...once in awhile we can get stuff from other countries. We can get some pretty obscure stuff if a library is willing to send it.
Well, good luck and I'm sure you'll do great.

Well...okay. Since you know who H.G. Wells is, I can forgive the typo.
Although, wouldn't it be wild if there really was a book called "The Island of Dr. Monroe"?
Maybe he could be Dr. Moreau's not so evil American cousin. Instead of monsters, he changes people into cuddly bunnies, kitties and guinea pigs.
(LOL!) Forgive me, it's been a long day and I'm in a snarky mood.
Although, I'm in for a fun day tomorrow when I get to escort our own Redtail and Fred-Zor to the Ren Fair! Woohoo!
Yeah, it'll be a long day but I'll enjoy myself.

I'm glad you know who H. G. Wells is, Mikki, you'd be amazed at the shocking levels of ignorance I see on an almost daily basis.
It's reassuring to know my job still has value.
And, yes, the Ren Fair was fun!
It's always a treat to see Fred and I like getting to know Redtail better. Everyone was taking pictures, so expect a few here by me at least.

Oh man! I'm sorry! I got distracted and forgot about the Internet for a few days. Darn boys...
Anyway, it went smoothly. There were few people there and the head children's librarian was there to help me with all my many questions.
On my second day, I mostly just pulled names off the board from the Summer Reading Program. Then alphabatized them and stapled them to info sheets for the children. I have this weird thing about alphabatizing. I love it for some reason. Everything I own is alphabatized. *ahem* Anyway!
Yesterday was slow. Not many people, not many books to shelve. I pushed the books to the front of the shelves to make it look nicer. That's what the boss lady said to do, so I did... sorta... *ahem*
Saturday will be the first full day that I work. It'll be interesting to see how that goes.
Overall, it's been pretty fun!

Hey Mikki,
I'm happy to read the new job is going is going well.
Yeah, library work does have its slow spots but can be fun too. Yeah, I have a thing for alphabetizing too...guess that's why I chose this profession, huh?
Anyway, good luck and I'm sure you'll do great.
