My Walmart has Pocky!

The lives of two self-proclaimed geek/gamer chicks as told by themselves. Sadly, we don't have to exaggerate much from reality.

My Walmart has Pocky!

Post by Dennis Kininger »

Yeah, there I was over the Memorial Day weekend making a trek to Walmart. Yes, my life really is that exciting (LOL!)

Actually, since my county is the only one in NY which currently has the utterly insane sales tax of 9.75%, I was shopping at a Walmart in a different county, which has a lower sales tax.

I go to this store when I have a list of things I need. When I just need 1 or 2 things, I drive to a local store.

Anyway, there I am, browsing the shelves of this particular Walmart. I'm near the Asian food stuff and suddenly I spy Pocky! :o

For a moment, I'm like...holy crap! Walmart has Pocky! :o :o

Yeah, the only time I ever see this tasty snack is at conventions and not many of the ones I go to even carry it. So, whenever, I spot it, I tend to stock up on it. Pocky actually stays fresh quite a while.

It was the same familiar box, except everything was translated into english. I bought a box of chocolate and a box of strawberry, which I've never tried before. I like the kind with chocolate and nuts but I didn't see any.

I don't know if Walmarts in other states sell Pocky, I was just surprised to see it here is all.

Now, if this store starts stocking Ramune, I'll be extra happy.

Ah well. Congrats, Dennis!

Shucks!

Now I want some Ramune and don't feel like driving to Rochester. Oh well, I'll probably buy some at another con this year.

I tried my strawberry flavored Pocky last night and it was rather good.

Mmmm...Pocky! :P

Dennis...craving more Pocky while stuck at work.

PS: Yay! I'm not box fodder anymore!

My Wal*Mart stopped carrying Pocky. I protested to the Foods manager but he didn't seem to be able to stop it, even though it was one of our best sellers. I wanted to walk around the front of the store on my day off with a sign saying SAVE THE POCKY but was afraid I'd get fired....

Crispy cracker-like food-stick dipped in any of a number of flavored frostings. [Not to be confused with Yan-Yan, where you do the dipping yourself. Pocky is pre-dipped.] Common varieties include chocolate and strawberry. I like chocolate orange Pocky the best right now.

Hey Fred! **Waves**

For some reason, Milk Pocky seems appropriate for you, though I'm extremely curious to try this flavor (How do those wily Japanese make milk flavored frosting?). Yes, I can finish a gallon of 2% by myself in a couple of days, sometimes.

** Hi aaronost! Pocky is indeed yummy and, if you happen to see any, it's worth trying out. Check your local Walmart, they may have some there.

*Hi Joy! Nice story. I'd probably be marching with you (Were I in CA) or by myself if I were ever deprived of pocky. I'd probably get strange looks from any of the people who use my library or my coworkers but I wouldn't care. Chocolate Orange sounds like a good flavor...I've never tried it.

Anyway, I took the quiz and came out as Banana Pocky!

Since I happen to utterly loathe bananas...I took the quiz a second time and used my second choice answers and came out as Green Tea Pocky!

Since I love green tea, this flavor intrigues me even more than Milk Pocky.

Mmmm...green tea! **SIGH!** :P

Oh well, I'm still a serious chocolate addict. Strawberry Pocky was pretty good but any variety of chocolate will appeal to me.

Yeah, Yan Yan sounds familiar...I probably saw it at a convention but I didn't buy any.

Milk Pocky still intrigues me. If I spot it at a convention, I'll certainly try it.

I would love to find green tea Pocky. I think we should have some sort of Pocky Exchange Program. LOL.

Well, I'm still considering a trek to Otakon in August. If I actually go, I'll scrounge around and see if they have any there.

I like your Pocky exchange program idea too. :P

I was visualizing a few goofy possible public service announcements for TV.

A kindly old narrator dressed in a samurai outfit, wearing kitty ears, a Sailor uniform...something anime related and odd, ya know?

Anyway, he goes on about the hordes of Pocky deprived American Otaku: scenes of weeping, depressed librarians, artists and retail associates are seen on TV.

A Pocky exchange program (though what to exchange remains to be seen)is set up with a bunch of helicopters making a Pocky drop over selected Pocky deprived areas.

Happily glomping each other, the giddy Otakus descend on the different flavors of Pocky and all is now right with the world.

Yeah...it's late in my workday and I feel silly.

Finding some Green Tea Pocky would still be cool, though.

That's okay.

Yeah, I spotted it near the noodles, soy sauce, stir fry stuff...so I guess that would be the oriental/asian foods.

However, I do think it would sell better next to the cookies but that's just my opinion.

Mmmm...I want to try Chocolate Orange Pocky! That sounds pretty good.

Hey Kubey!

How was Akon? That show always sounds pretty good based on the reports I've read.

Okay, I've gotta ask: What's "Reverse Pocky"?....frosting covered by biscuit?

Congrats on finding Green Tea Pocky too.
