Gaming Alive!
Gaming Alive!
It's the webcomic games would read, if only they could!
A satirical look at the wide world of video games, the highs and lows, the do's and don'ts, brought to you by the people who know it best: the games themselves. For when mankind isn't looking, these boxes of joy talk to each other, and take a look at the industry that they are a part of.
My archive is currently 15 strips, with more on the way, of course.
Check it out, and please tell me what you think!
I'd mostly like some feedback on my writing... am I being funny enough or should I pack up this charade? But, of course, any other comments are more than welcome.
Thanks a bunch,
Specterz.

Yeah.. about the nintendogs.... are those *real*?!
I like it, though I'd like it better if the game box images were a little higher-quality.
Or maybe if there were backgrounds....

Maybe you could take a photo of your shelf for a background or something.

Well, it's another comic about videogames...but you actually manage to make it somewhat fresh with the interesting gimmick of actually having the games themselves be the characters (instead of comic #1083910813 starring the sarcastic nerds on the couch playing them).
It actually works surprisingly well...and I like how you've actually managed to create some distinct characters out of them (specifically the Doom 3 box).
It's hard to say if this gimmick has legs...how long can you have videogame boxes talking to each other without it getting old? But for now it's pretty amusing stuff.

yes the nintendogs are real...it may do to ds what pokemon did to the gba ...it uses all interesting capabilities of the ds (microphone, stylo touch screen interface) to make you interact with a digitized pooch. in my opinion i think it is all pointless.
i sometimes find the gaming industry is rivaling the movie industry lately in terms of their ferocious pitch of money grabbing through banal piece of garbage that i think this comic can provide some incisive perspective on the industry. i find myself thinking that this could parlay into a gaming review method or something similar to that weekly gamespy poll feature of showcasing two competing game titles.

Yeah, they really should have cut out the superhero comics after Superman and Batman, lord knows there are too many of those comics out these days.antquin wrote:noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. not a-n-o-t-her gaming comic. we need a crisis of infinite earths to munch up all these comics. or a highlander "there can be only one". oh, well. good luck, kid..
I really wish people would quit dismissing comics just because it has familiar subject matter with others. Who cares? I don't walk into a comic book shop and complain about all the superhero comics. I expect them to be there. And a lot of them are good. It's the same with gaming comics.
ON topic, I liked the concept of the games conversing. I hope you find a way to keep it fresh.

I really wouldn't blame anyone for not detecting the sarcasm here. I don't think comics should get negative points for their chosen subject matter, but choosing old subjects certainly isn't going to get you positive ones.Jaybob81 wrote:Yeah, they really should have cut out the superhero comics after Superman and Batman, lord knows there are too many of those comics out these days.
I read it a little more. I agree about the backgrounds, it doesn't have to be something fresh each time, but maybe if you'd just draw a quick shelf with prices and everying on it, that'd help. You could have them taunt eachother every time some game has it's prices slashed. D3 could really laugh it's ass off at pariah right about now...
Thanks for the feedback everyone!
Yeah, the background thing sounds like a really good idea, and I have been drawing more with actual pencils and stuff lately... Maybe I'll try to whip something up to try it out. On a shelf in a games shop... hmm I like that.
Thanks for the compliments Jackhass. Would you, and others for that matter, like it if I added some more of those "characters"? I have some ideas floating in my head, but I thought it might be a bit cheesy.
Nintendogs is indeed a real game, and it is actually pretty fun. Those little doggies are just too cute...
Antquin, I know there are a lot of gaming comics, but at least I'm trying something different. There's different jokes I can make, and at least I'm not involving some random roommates. I also hope to make an insightful comment on the industry every now and then (wrapped in a joke, of course). But, you know, if you don't like gaming comics at all, that's just a matter of taste. I totally agree with JayBob on this matter, actually
And Mr. Carvaggio, anyone can laugh his ass off at Pariah!

you're right. sorry for being such a dick. i just couln't take it any more. you make a valid point about superheroes. i really do think ther are too many video game comics, and too many superhero comics, for that matter. raise the level for video game comics, please.Mr. Caravaggio wrote:I really wouldn't blame anyone for not detecting the sarcasm here. Hmm I dunno, so far I'm making jokes about the games that are coming out, and I'd think I could keep that up. But maybe in the future I'll need some more "characters" to keep it interesting... I'll think about that.krytos55 wrote:as someone previously said: it's funny for now but it will probally become difficult to keep up, theres only so many videogame jokes that are both universally known and funny. Unless they make dakitana 2. Then you'll be set for life.
Thanks for the feedback.
I read this not too long ago. I can't really say much about it. It's not that it's bad or anything, it's just not my type of thing. It sure is interesting though, I guess that's what made me read it.

I guess I thought I could let the comic die without anyone noticing... but apparantly I have some fans. So, starting today, Gaming Alive is alive once more!
It's the webcomic games would read, you know, if they could read. Which they can't. But they can make sarcastic jokes about their own industry!
The only webcomic that I know of that stars games instead of those nerdy gamers. Why don't you check it out?

Thanks
