Instant Kung Fu Girl

Post by Gau dog »

For some reason, this seems to be my most popular strip.

THE INSTANT KUNG FU GIRL is a woman who tries to live the ordinary life but constantly encounters situations that call for her to use her learned ability to squelch the problem immediately. From the mundane to the unusual, she utilizes her specialized skill to overcome any physical obstacle that ordinary people would have trouble with. For the Instant Kung Fu Girl, Kung Fu is a part of everyday life.

I like the professional quality of the strips (they look like they could be in a newspaper, sans content) but the whole concept is stunted. The entire premise of the comic is just a girl punching people which isn't that entertaining. I don't see why you've made so many because there's barely any substance to begin with.

You've got a really nice artistic style so hopefully you'll be able to apply it in a way that it will be appreciated more.

Actually, I think it's very cute, but I like kung fu. C-: Eventually you might want a few more reoccurring characters, just to make more jokes... it'd be nice if there was more to the main character than just her kung fu. But like I said, cute. Definitely looks nice.

In a general way, I liked your comic. It's amusing and the drawing is fine.
Strips 23 and 24 made me laugh loud. xD

But, looking for the bad side, I think it's a little repetitive and the kung-fu punch gag is overused.
It might need more varied situations aside from 100% pure kung-fu jokes, and possibly some significatives characters more.

In short, good work.
Try to get even better. ^__^

Thanks for the comments. Yeah, I know it's kind of shallow, heavily relying on a one type of slapstick gag type of deal. It's tough thinking up variations. It's almost like a Spy vs. Spy, Tom and Jerry, Roadrunner/Wily Coyote thing. With a title like"Instant Kung Fu Girl", however, I felt oblieged to always relate it to Kung Fu somehow. Good suggestions though.

wow. this is going on my links page. ::salivates over the quality craftsmanship::

that said, navagation buttons would be cool, but aren't necessary. i can't really suggest them when i didn't even make mine.

i actually like that you've managed to apply Kung-Fu to all aspects of everyday life. and you didn't cheeze it up with a silly backstory. i salute you.

The big draw, the title of your webcomic, and the reason people prefer this strip to any of your others is the kung fu, not the humor. So go with what works.

is by far my favorite; that one's just beautiful

Why not just do full-on extended fight scenes with competent enemies?

Because then it'd be Plotless Violence. The title is funny, as is the comic. It works perfectly. It's kung fu based humor, so losing either the kung fu or the humor would make it a different comic altogether.

Yeah, you'll have to watch out for that and make sure that all the fighting isn't all random, but it wouldn't be the same unless you had a big boss fight in there, somewhere. . . or maybe that's just me, nyu?

Also, hope ya get lotsa people buying your book :)

I actually ripped the title off of a movie called "Instant Kung Fu Man". Never saw the movie, but I loved that title too. I can't really stuff in a whole lot of action into one strip. So I didn't do more opponents or more elaborate moves. Besides, I always felt these simple one knockouts were more instant.

My suggestion, in order to break the monotony, is to put all your comics in a single archive, and mixing them up. Instant Kung Fu Girl does NOT need a continuous story, but it is a bit one note. Throwing different comic strips in and out will allow you to keep the integrity of each strip without any of them getting old. It'd be like Looney Tunes that way. I dunno.

IKFG would look GREAT on a comicgen account, methinks.

I like the comic even though its kinda of a niche comic. <.< Well I think eveything was pretty much covered ( gees I hate it when i get to thread late...)

Ever thought about some simple coloring? and hace you uploaded anything on keenspace/comicgenesis yet? if not, why?

No, I don't think about coloring. Black and white is less work, it transfers better on B&W xerox copiers, and I want my physical art to match what's on the computer so I'm antsy over digital paint bucket coloring.

At one point, I did get myself a keenspace account, but one of my computer illiteracies is not knowing how to work FTP. So I never uploaded anything and it got closed. And I'm too lazy to learn.

Lmao, You sound like me now. When I first signed up to Keenspace I just sat in the control panel wondering where I go to load pics for about a month. Anyway FTP is easy to use, download SmartFTP and you'll see how much simplier it will get.

Theres a faqs somewhere in the forums too.
