PNGs tend to crawl along slower than JPGs or GIFs. They're meant for high-resolution photo reproductions. I'd recommend either JPGs or GIFs - try both and see what works. (I find GIFs work great for hand-drawn stuff that isn't too detailed, like yours.)

Are you saving for web Nanda?
If so, make sure you're saving it as a png 8. You might be saving it as png 24 which for whatever reason make the file huge!

That's 24 bit PNGs. 8 bit PNGs compress as well or better than GIFs.

Even though it's in stick figure, I think it's pretty good.

I'm looking through the archive, as matter of fact.

It's "stylized stick figure." Much different from the standard "oh my god I have no control over my own motor functions" stick figure.

By the way, I be liking this comic. I was reading it back when there was only two of them, and you were ignoring the "don't pitch the comic until you have thirty of them" rule.

Thank you... but I'm confused; I didn't pitch Ugly Girl when I first joined. This would be the first time. In fact, I read the rules very carefully so as not to make such a blunder. I put myself out there, and participated a lot, but I didn't pitch.

Really? I could have sworn... aw hell, now I have to go look at the entire "Comic Pitching" thread to find out. Thanks a lot.

Can I save you some time and effort by assuring you that I really didn't?
I would hear your story!
Well one day I was walking down the road with my faithful pet dog Friday, when he started sniffing at a bush. Out popped a giant monster who ate him right up! I crapped my pants and prepared for the worst, when all of a sudden, A giant Dairylea triangle came to my rescue, vanquished the monster, and resurrected Friday. Then He flew up in the sky and I never saw Him/Her/It again. But to this day I have nothing but the utmost respect for Dairylea cheese Triangles

I'd like to do the honor of pointing out that JPGs are absolutely horrible for saving flat color comics, and that GIF types are really difficult to use because of the copyright issues. (You can't even upload them to DA to check the size.)

PNGs are really the only way to go. If you scan your comics into pure black-white before coloring them, you can reduce the number of colors to around 10 or so, and the filesize will be below 100k.

Of course, you manual color (which is really cool, by the way) so it's not that easy for you...

And coloring things with photoshop is a pain, I might add.

Whoa.

Okay, I'll admit. When I first saw it, I was a bit skeptic, and dismissed it as "yet another stick figure comic"...

Then I checked out the archives today. It's pretty good, Nanda! (if that's what your name is...err.)

Anyway - will be finishing reading the archives. Woot!

Oh I forgot...

Yes I am one of the many who ready Ugly Girl. I know what it is that draws me to it. The simplicity and adorableness of each strip. I see them and just want to yell out in girlish glee over it's adorableness.

good work Nanda, you managed to make me giggle like a little girl.

Heh... All I can see is Mike Meyers as Deiter holding out the front of his shirt and saying "Now I am as happy as a little girl."

Thanks, K-Dawg.
