Should I start a new comic?

Post by Fecundity »

I have, on occasion, shaken up the basic Ninja Verses formula. I've done a few flash animations and a long-form thing, Regular Ninja's Guide to Chick Tracts. However, I occasionally come up with ideas that won't do as ninja stories regardless of how hard I squeeze them. (I've attached, as gratuitous illustration, a short comic which falls into that category.)

As I see it, I could start including wacky unrelated stuff on Ninja Verses or I could start another comic which would have an erratic update schedule but would contain the ninja-free crapola that I come up with. What think you all? Or is there some third option that I've overlooked-- besides abandoning cartooning altogether and taking up sheep herding?

Personnally, I'd vote for keeping the unrelated stuff in your strip (if it fits the general tone of it). Many of my favorite strips do it and I have no problems with it.

I must say your Ninja Verses comic is comedy gold!
So is the bluegrass Yoda.
Heck, you are comedy gold.
More of everything!

Thanks for the encouragement.

I am thinking that I'll continue to have a new Ninja Verses cartoon every monday, and then perhaps something else later in the week if the mood strikes me. However, I don't want to have the 'Ninja Verses' title graphic over comics that aren't nv-style ninja comics. That is, I want to have the 'Ninja Verses by Don Frederic' graphic over the ninja cartoons and (say) 'The Beaten Path by P.D.M.' over other cartoons. Is there an easy way to implement this with Comicgenesis?

One way, I guess, is to have the title graphic among the daily files so that it changes every time the comic updates. But this would require changing all of the comics already on the site to accomodate that. Since I started out naming the day's comic 20051207.gif (or whatever), I'd have to rename every image in order to add something that appears before it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
