I began running a rather long serial on Monday.
Thanks to those of ya'll who replied to my previous post about how to handle the long arc. After mulling it over, I decided to run installments at my usual rate until it is finished.
Regular Ninja's Guide to Chick Tracts
Any feedback would be welcome. Especially from... YOU.
Regular Ninja's Guide to Chick Tracts
I'm bumping this because the serial arc has finally concluded. I am interested on feedback as to whether the change from my regular format worked or not. Should I stick to one-off gag strips?
The segments are in the archive. I've also assembled them together with the tract that I'm parodying next to it, for comparison:

I read it while it was updating - at first i had a very "what the crap is this?" reaction to it - mostly because i had no idea what a "chick tract" was.
It felt sort of like listening to Mystery Science Theatre with the t.v. off - it was kind of funny, but i knew i was missing quite a bit. It seemed really incoherent.
With the panels side by side, it's very easy to get the comedy though, and it's pretty good. The only suggestion i'd like to make is that you put a link to that page up on the pages in the archive ('cause i didn't see one anywhere on the site), and then reverse the sides you put the panels on. I kept reading them like i would a normal comic book, the Ninja Verses then the chick tract panels, and i found myself reading the Ninja Verses panels over again to look at all the things you had parodied.
It was good, i enjoyed it, i'll look forward to the next one, but it'll be good to have the regular Regular Ninja back.

Thanks for the feedback.
That said, I see why people like having arcs. It was much easier to put together three panels of the Guide to Chick Tracts than it is to put together one panel of a stand-alone strip, because there was a structure that told me where I needed to be going.

I don't know if there will be a "next one." I think it would be tiresome to parody Jack Chick again, and I don't know what else I'd do as a story arc. The genre parody niche is filled pretty well by Irregular Webcomic.c.w. wrote:It was good, i enjoyed it, i'll look forward to the next one, but it'll be good to have the regular Regular Ninja back.

Thanks. I'll take "brilliant but confusing" over "dreary tripe" any day.corgan_dane wrote:Side by side, it's brilliant.
Alone, I was confused.
Bravo.
