Hmmm...

Post by McDuffies »

So I was checking wikipedia article for Lewis Trondheim and read this paragraph:
After Psychanalyse, Trondheim was challenged by J.C. Menu to write a story with only 4 different panels, drawn by Menu. After some strips, Trondheim asked for four more panels, and wrote the highly dense comic book, Moins d'un quart de seconde pour vivre. Such constrained writing achievements, reminiscent of OuLiPo writers, were a huge incentive for OuBaPo's creation.
Does this sound like something we can try here?

What do you mean? Writing a story based on four (possibly unrelated) comic panels? Kinda like a reverse jam?

this sounds like fun

so it's sort of like a copy/paste comic?
same four panels, but several pages' worth of story?

Yeah, so you'd always have to guide the story to direction where panels that are available allow you, you're limited by four things that you can actually show. Sounds interesting and also bloody difficult.

There's another comic, an actual comic, that ran for decades reusing the same panels too. The Angriest dog in the world.

I was thinking it was more like a 'draw a comic trying to tie 4 loose panels' kind of thing.

Made by none else but David Lynch.

Yeah, each new panel you'd have to pick between one of four given images, you don't have to stick to a particular order and it would be fun to try to make the comic as long as possible.

But in Portuguese.
Am I wrong in assuming that you're suggesting just copy-pasting an essay in speech baloons?

I wonder if this will work out. I liked the designs of the characters I made for the naked thread so I reused them.
