Blow up your favorite city using overwhelming weapons!

Post by Rkolter »

This is pretty fun - a google thing made by Carlos Labs. It lets you pinpoint a city, see it on google maps, and then drop one of a variety of nuclear or thermonuclear bombs on it and see where the damage radii are. You can also drop an asteriod...

http://www.carloslabs.com/node/16

The darkest color is conflaguration - nothing survives.
Then, third degree burns.
Then, second degree burns.
The outer ring is first degree burns.

Here's St. Louis, using a B61 bomb - a 340 kiloton US nuclear warhead.

Here's a cool one - the Little Boy bomb - dropped on Hiroshima. If detonated in St. Louis, we'd be just outside the weakest range of effect.

Coooool.

Probably to compensate for the roundness of the earth.

The scary thing is, Central Command (Tampa, FL) isn't too far away for such a thing to happen. I'd be a little bit NW of the outermost ring in this scenario.

Off the top of my head I'll go with IVStudio's answer, to compensate for the fact the planet is actually round... although the fact they're so perfect makes me think they aren't taking any of the terrain into account, which is too bad since Google might let them do that.

It's interesting to get some scale on these things on streets you know. Little Boy was actually a lot smaller than I thought.
