Ha ha! I only just saw the second Die Hard. I thought about going to see Transformers today, but my friends and I decided that everyone else would do the same thing...so we'll see it on Sunday. I also thought about going to see Sicko, but figured I'd rather have a good time today than become even MORE jaded. However, I did get to light off a bunch of fireworks. YAY! ^_^ I should check to see what the fireworks laws are in Wisconsin. If this is my last chance to light some big ones, I might just swing by the stands before they close and get a bunch of half off stuff.

They actually sell fireworks on the night of the 4th there? Here they have to pack up and leave before that... but this county's pretty strict about fireworks: too many big dry grassy hillsides.

Anyway... I thought of going and seeing the fireworks in San Francisco since, supposedly, this is the last year they're likely to have their usual grand finale due to changes in laws about transporting explosives... but seeing the crowds on the news made me reconsider the idea of looking for parking in the city, so instead I stayed home and watched the local fireworks over the roofs of my neighbors houses.

Last night we had just my kind of weather! This may be a bit evil of me, but when the show let out, a lot of the audience people came up and asked me where the fireworks were, and I REALLY REALLY enjoyed telling them, "It's been storming outside, they're probably cancelled!" I don't know if the actual planned displays went off or not, but there were people setting them off on their own...it was kinda neat driving home from work, and seeing lightning AND fireworks at the same time!

We have year-round fireworks stalls, though most of them are only around for the 4th and shortly after. People can also light just about anything off within city limits. It's pretty ridiculous and I'm surprised nothing has burned down yet. XD

Well, I'm back from my uncle's lake house, having blown off significant quantities of explosives to the amusement of everyone, and picked up a decent tan along the way. All in all, not a bad 4th. Would've been better if Bethie could have come. But still, yay 4th!

What 4th?

Wasn't bothered that I worked from 9-7, but it was kinda disappointing to come home and hear the show was canceled because it rained earlier in the day.

at least the bright side was I could park in front of my house instead of blocks away. I live down the road where they hold the show.

I watched the 'hood put on a firework show. And by 'hood I mean the neighborhood across the street.

They gave downtown a run for the money. 8-)

I was up all night, because I was trying to reset my biological clock, which wants me to go to sleep at 4 am and wake up at 2 pm. So then on the fourth I went to bed at like 8, long before darkness and/or any fireworks.

I find that nothing can beat my hometown fourth of july, where the town puts on a parade (which I've been in multiple times), has a big barbecue in the park run by the fire department, and then a sweet fireworks display from the park, with fireworks that boom awesomely in the echoy-ness of the valley. Small town, where you get to see people you know being silly on main street, and fireworks that take up the sky 'cause the rest is mountains - just doesn't get better than that.

The fire department, however, never seems to get any better at cooking that damn roast beef.

This was the first time I've actually made an effort to see the fireworks in Portland, usually I'm out of town or couldn't be bothered. I got a really decent spot on the Hawthorne bridge (the fireworks come from a barge in the Willamette River), so many people were on the bridge that they completely commandeered a lane of the roadway (as well as all the railings, the sidewalk / bike path, and the center dividers) without so much as a paper sign.

It was right over the Blues Festival (yes, the festival goes under the bridge), that being the biggest Blues Festival anywhere. Shame I don't really listen to Blues... but free music is good (the festival isn't free, but they don't exactly have it in a soundproof bubble).

Anyway the fireworks were awesome. :) I expected to be pretty jaded but the slow crescendo in quantity, colors, brightness, and loudness of explosions for half an hour was quite impressive, and the finale was stunning.
