Independence Day is coming!

Post by Dburkhead »

No, not the National holiday. This "Independence Day" is June 5th--the day
the last payment on my student loans goes out.

And that, my friends, will mean a major shift to the good in my finances.

Congratulations! Oh, man, until you've paid off your student loan, you can't appreciate how good it feels. Like dropping a ship anchor off your neck. I remember when I paid off mine, I felt like I was going to levitate.

I wonder if they take first and second borns as payment? That's about what we owe them.

The terribly ironic part about this is that I'm about to graduate from grad school...meaning I'm about to jump right back in to paying student loans. I don't even get a grace period for the ones that hold over from undergrad.

I'm about to take out my first student loan for $25,000 courtesy of the USAA special offer for ROTC cadets, OCS candidates, and Navy midshipmen.

It's a good deal, don't have to pay it off until 90 days after I commission (one year from now). I'm gonna be using it to pay my higher rent this year, and invest most of it (yay 2% APR).

i should consider myself lucky. I only have about ten thousand in debt, which shouldn't be too hard to pay off, since my parents are paying for the interest right now while i'm in school to make it easier on me.

Beth and I are at about 90 thousand total between us.

Got about 70k right now. Expect another 25k in another year. Course, I'm still in school, so I don't have to pay anything for now.

The downside of gentrification! Downtown SD is really going upscale pretty quickly these days.

you know the story of Dorian Gray? the guy who remains young and healthy as long as he does not look at the painting, which collects the damage of his life? yeah, that's kind of what it's like for me and my growing debt.

congratulations dburkhead, this is no small achievement!!
