Music

Post by Jameslong »

I'm one of the most particular people on the planet when it comes to music. Well... in a way. I'll appreciate just about anything musical so long as talent is evident. But I'll only listen to a select few types of artists.

so, i'm sure this thread has come and gone about as often as Tom Jones gets a lacy undergarment thrown at him, but i didn't see it in the first 3 pages, so that makes it fair game...

What are you listening to?

Me: LCD Soundsystem, Jem, Arcade Fire, Clap your hands and say Yeah, Feist, Doug Martsch, Josh Ritter, and Jenny Lewis. The Postal Service always seems to pop up, too... difficult for anything to replace Give Up, for me.

for anyone who is unfamiliar with it, http://www.Pandora.com is an awesome resource for finding new music you'll probably like.

I listen to a lot of different stuff. Oldies, rock, techno, classic.

But usually, when drawing, I like to listen to atmospheric music from anime and movie soundtracks.

I'm not much of a music geek, so I don't have any super particular taste in specific bands, sadly.

when writing, i really have to have stuff that's not lyrical because it totally messes up my train of thought and word choice. I've got various classical favorites, techno, and a good smattering of John Williams, too, for writing.

i think williams' work is amazing... i can literally feel my imagination spinning whenever i hear his stuff.

Some bastard tried to tell me that the Mescalaroes are better than the Clash, so I've loaded up on Joe's late work to prove the sonuvabitch wrong.

As of this moment, I'm listening to The Mars Volta. I'll probably listen to some Drum Corps and Death Cab later.

Williams ganks a lot of classical themes which is kinda neat if you know the original sources. I heard some Shostakovich in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

straight to hell has to be my favorite clash song, but i admit I've heard very little of their discography apart from the more popular tracks.

I gave myself a task to every year discover another classic artist I haven't listened to before. I think 2007 will be a Leonard Cohen year.

Otherwise I listen to Radiohead, Nick Cave, Blur, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chefs, Gnarls Barkley, White Stripes, The Strokes, Decemberists, Interpol, Moby, Portishead, Beck, Cardigans, Talkin' Heads, David Byrne, Madness, Joy Division, Pogues, Stranglers, David Bowie, Queen, The Kinks, Beatles, etc etc etc... I'm sure I forgot a lot.

Currently I'm been listening to Leningrad Cowboys lately. Also some of Mika. The Roots and Outkast. Some Johnny Cash and some Captain Beefheart.

And a lot of Serbian music too.

I have pretty eclectic tastes, but don't own a whole lot of music. Don't listen to it so much while drawing these days 'though: I've been giving audiobooks a spin.

At hand I've got a couple Leonard Cohen albums, a Celtic string ensemble, Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, The Beatles' Revolver, and the Furi-Kuri soundtrack.

Plus on the computer I've got some Edith Piaf, Television's Marquee Moon, and stuff from this Rockabilly/Punk mix tape from the 70's: Mickey Jupp; George Sones; Johnny Burnette; D. Edmunds; the Crumps; T. Rex; Chris Spedding; Gary Glitter; New York Dolls; X Ray Spex; The Clash; The Ramones; The Sex Pistols and a few more--it's quite a tape.

Hmmm...

I have a rather odd and quirky taste in music - I like what I like.

Power ballads are good are as 50's 60' 70's 80's 90's 00's - dance - rock - tradional - bah!

I like what I like.

I'll listen to almost anything, but what genre often depends on my mood. My favorite band is Rhapsody of Fire though.

He he, first time I hear that someone actually listens to Garry Glitter. XD

I'm actually a collector, real squirrel. I owe a lots of lots of lots of music and have listened to about 10% of them. I like to have a lot of classic rock... well, just to have them around.

truth or dare
are you ready for this?
we don't care.

i love oldschool KMFDM. Shamless self promotion in each song: what more can you ask for?

I've listened to very little Cohen. I loved Everybody Knows from Pump Up the Volume, but was distressed when if ound out the soundtrack featured the song sung by... suicidal blond, I think? :P

However, the guy's voice always puts me in a very depressed state. one of those artists I can only listen to in small chunks or else i go into a tailspin for the day.

Music. The only thing that keeps me from straying when doing comic stuff. I like to put the disc changers on random and see what comes up. Oh by the way, two of them, a 300 and 200, I have 45 slots left and they could be filled by the end of the year.

I've been on some weird early 90's kick all week. Listening to Rage Against the Machine and Gish by The Smashing Pumpkins.

awesome you found him, MCD. I'd also suggest if you've never heard him, to give Joachim Witt a spin.

bah they usually only would do it once or twice an album. on En ich how I miss you.. cause boy do your solo albums really suck.

I usually don't listen to music when I write, but I do when I draw. Currently I been listening through my entire Social Distortion disography (thank you Release your Mind DVD reissue), along with random other things like old wumpscut (I can listen up to Eevil young Flesh usually), Decoded Feedback, Stretch Armstrong, and a few other things here and there.

The usual suspects current include Wolfsheim (one of my all time favorite bands), Freezepop, Antony and the Johnsons, Depeche Mode, Joy Division, Hot Water Music, Dag Nasty, Morrissey and the Smiths, Marc Almond and Softcell, Bad Religion, Rise Against, Funker Vogt, Verdi, Lizt, Freezepop, Seabound, Nun, Redflag, Reverend Horton Heat, and Bobby Darin.
