The Autos In Our Lives

Post by Siabur »

The sun is out and 50 degrees. The 18 inches of snow from the blizzard in december is almost gone. I was finally able to remove the last 6 inches from the yard, yes yard. I opened the garage and took off the cover. It's been for months since I last drove it. It's been calling me. In September, I recieved my great grandmothers 1953 Chevy. Oh how fun it is to drive. Even better since I put seat belts in it. Along with a 1988 mustang and an 89 chevy. Oh and a 64 Olds Starfire. What do you, the webcomicers of the world drive?

I drive a Geo Prism. Gets good gas mileage and runs fine. Boring as cardboard. End of story.

I miss my 87 Mercury Tracer...

It was under 3000 miles when I bought it. I only had it until 5,870 miles.

06 Kia Rio 5 in sunset orange. Brought it last April with 17 miles on it. Comfortably seats 4. Has fold down seats that can haul a lot of stuff. Kicking factory sound system that keeps me sane during the 50 mile round trip to work each day.

02 Chevy Cavalier. It's almost the exact same car as my roommate Jason except his is a 4 door and mine is a 2 door model.

Also his has the "ass dent" on the hood cause he got into a little fender bender and mine has bumper stickers.

I *had* a 91 Ford Escort. It was a sweet car, believe it or not! But then my brother had to roll it, the bastard. It's since been replaced...with a frickin' Ford Aspire. It's basically a rebranded Kia. We joke that it Aspires to get above 50 mph. Even if we could get it to speed, everyone's scared that it would fly off the road because it's pretty small. Basically, it's almost as crappy as a Geo Metro.

On the good side, it does get good gas mileage, and that's with a broken part that's making it less efficient.

I had a '91 Subaru Loyale, but it died in storage in Colorado. Massive mysterious coolant leak that did not bode well for the engine block.

So now I have an '04 Subaru Forester. I feel weird driving such a nice car. It doesn't have any rust spots, and it actually accelerates going up hills, and it has a CD player, and the engine warms up really fast. Of course it also has all this silly thick framing on it that is supposed to help protect me if I get in an accident but also causes a much larger blind spot than my old car, and since it doesn't have any dents or anything I'm a little nervous about fucking it up.

And after another $8000, I'll have the title, too. And then it shall be ALL MINE and I shall drive it unto death, kind of like my old car even though my old car basically died in its sleep.

'82 Toyota Corolla, 220,000km's on the tacho, more rust than body work but the brakes work. Most of the time...

And the windshield is cracked. Badly.

Edit: 136,700 miles for the Americans who still use the quaint, English Imperial system.

And I've got the 2006 Kia Spectra EX - Nice four door sedan with a good sound system and lots of airbags. It came with 9 miles on it, same time as Beth's.

I miss my Monty Carlo Z34 - big engine, kicking sound, sleek ride, turned on a dime, breathtaking acceleration, all supple leather interior... she was my baby. She also got 19 miles to the gallon and needed some transmission work. So... yeah.

The '96 Cav is off the road for a while, so I guess it's the wife's '98 Contour.
