Character names

Post by Killbert-Robby »

I'm writing another book! Woo! I'm staying CLEAR of the romance-y stuff here. This baby is an action thriller. It centers around Steve McCarthy, a SWAT pointman, and is titled "Kevlar". I won't give away any of the plot, but I do need plenty of characters. And I'm having writers block in that area, soooo.... any ideas for some character names? Its unisex, about the same amount of women as men.

Get a baby name book, or go to websites featuring baby names. That makes it interesting to try to match up name meanings with personalities. Image
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

First names are easy enough, its when you try to match it with a surname that it becomes a pain in the ass haha.

Denial is not falsification. You can't avoid a fact just because you don't like it.
"Data" is not the plural of "anecdote"

Here's a link to an awesome fake name generator. It'll also give you fake addresses and credit card numbers, but they're fake, so it's okay. They won't work.

You can even select by country!

Hmm, I can't really add on this, since everyone else kinda helped, but this is what I consider when making names.

Ahem.

If the first name is one syllable, then the last name must be 2 or 3 syllables.

Adam Johnson
Beth Witherspoon

If the first name is 2 syllables, then the last name can be either 1 or 3 syllables.

Jasmine Ryan
Philbert Hogan

If the first name is 3 or more, then you can make the last name between 1 to 3 syllables, or more (at your discretion)

Inemesit Imoh. (hehe)
Jessica Wannamaker

Never make the first or last name more than 4 syllables unless the first or last name is at least more than 2 syllables.

I hope that made sense.
