so, i'm at the mall the other day getting some work done on my truck at Sears. i'm walking around and i notice that like every 10th person is a 13-19 year old wearing an oversized hoodie (a sweatshirt with a hood on it) with earphones or headphones dangling off their neck.

anyone else notice something like this, or weirder?

That doesn't bother me as much as the trend that with the first sign of warmer weather, pants on young girls vanish and are replaced with skirts that if they sit wrong or a gust of wind comes, they show off everything. I know I'm being catty, but whatever happened to modesty?

(Please note, I'm not one to talk about "wierd" I wear a bubble gum pink bunny hat around campus and town)

It's the new cool.

When I was 13-19, spiking your hair, wearing a black leather jacket, and listening to Judas Priest or Ratt was cool.

Although, somehow I managed to make it not cool when I did it.

I go to a college, and I can tell you that that's not weird. One in four people do that here, and I'm known to from time to time. (The hoodie and headphones thing, that is).

And Jess, no kidding. My 11-year-old cousin has a pink miniskirt that does nothing but show off her bony-kid-legs. Makes me groan every time I see it.

What made me think of it was actually my room mate (admitedly a young woman, not a young girl) sitting crosslegged on the bed in a mini skirt. *shudders* I didn't need to know that much about her.

you mean girls wait until warm weather to wear short skirts where your from? here they seemed to increase in number as the temperature dropped. them and those Ugg boots. i mean it's the dead of winter. in the mountains. of montana.

I notice that I'm usually the only one wearing those long shorts that go past your knee slighty, and everyone else is wearing blue jeans. So I wear jeans sometimes so I can be normal. Blending in and going undetected is my new thing.

Sometimes I see a gaggle of people wearing pre torn jeans with fake paint splatters on them. I don't know if it's some kind of fashion statement to create the illusion of hard work, or if it's just dumb. I also saw some pre-torn chuck taylors at the store the other day. As if those shoes didn't have durability issues in the first place.

I have to admit that, if you've got good legs, miniskirts rock.

However, the thing that a woman needs to realize is that, when she's wearing a miniskirt, she's going to get objectified. Too many women expect to run around with as much skin showing as possible and not have an effect on the people around them. Miniskirts are highly sexual things. No woman has a right to be insulted if she catches someone ogling her oh-so-visible thighs.

I do, however, like the twelve-year-old prostitots who wear low cut shirts like they're saying "Hey, check out my invisible clevage! Maybe I'll grow into it someday!" I seriously wish I were a member of the Fashion Police sometimes. I think everyone should wear what they like, but there's gotta be a limit and when you make others physically ill with your delusions of fashion, it's time to throw in the towel. Like the 50 year old women who dress like Hot Topic teenagers in skin tight black emo dresses and fishnets. Bleack.

i like hoodies.. they're comfy.. but i don't listen to headphones everywhere i go, I prefer to pay at least some attention to my surroundings.

That is my roomie to a tee. It even looks like her. She has said almost those exact words after returning from clubbing.

I have nothing against miniskirts, it's just how mini they have gotten recently. They seem to be shrinking. I own two miniskirts myself - I have worn them twice, and was terrified that the wind would pick up. There's also a confidence issue with them. If a woman has the confidence in herself to carry off the look, and knows she looks good, then they work fine. If some one like me, with body image issues wears them, it looks like crap and they don't work.

I can't stand those people who run 45 to 50 in a 21.

I wear headphones at the gym because the music sucks. Anywhere else it can be dangerous, like outside.

When did emo and goth become the same thing? They're totally not.

My mommy taught me to look both ways before crossing the street though.
