I'm so drunk

Post by Ian Moulding »

How are you?

I probably shouldn't even be posting right now. I've just had a lousy fucking week and probably shouldn't be anywhere near a computer right now. I guess it's better than heavy machinery. or a car.

I started a new job a few months ago, and took a hit on pay to get what looked like an interesting position. It sucks, and the raise I was promised hasn't shown up. I've been working 60 hour weeks for the past month - Thank God with internet access. If I had to talk to my moron coworkers I'd have killed someone a lomng time ago - I've had five interviews in the past three days and eight in the work-week, and the one today lasted for two goddamn hours. Not including the freaking psych test,. This is a manager postion at a jewellry store. Why are they issuing the Stanford Test? Do they get a lot of schizoids applying for jobs? What the Hell?!

So, how was your week?

I've been a lazy bum all week. Reading Week sounds so good, and it is, but I did fuck-all in schoolwork (bad) and a couple of things I shouldn't have (more bad) so overall I'm not pleased with myself.

But I did update!
I guess that's something.

I guess they figure an unbalanced person is more likely to realize that they are managing a store full of jewelery and OMG I COULD STEAL IT ALL AND BE IN MEXICO BY THE MORNING!!!

The really crazy ones are usually too scared to steal from the store. In my experience it's the ones who can pass the test you have to worry about.

Q: Under What Circumstances Is It Acceptable To Steal From Your Employer?

A: Only if I really need to.
B: Whenever convenient.
C: I would never dream of stealing from my beloved corporate master, Megacide GmbH.

Who writes these idiotic things?

If I can handle the temptation of being left alone with half a million dollars in cash on a daily basis, I can handle the temptation to grab a few pieces of jewelry.

Jewelry...

So... Sparkly!

I suppose the silly tests to weed out a few crazy people. Having been involved in hiring processes myself I can say that there are indeed people who would truthfully say they'd steal from the company if they needed to in the interest of being honest.

Weird, a book I was reading for my Social Science class talks in depth about these employment tests and why the author feels they're stupid and what the real purpose is.[/u]

I too have faced this question in interviews.

Interviewer: "Would you ever steal from your employer?"
Me: "Why, what've you got?"

For some reason, I still got the job.

Ah, drunken posts... how I've missed thee.

Finding good jobs sucks, especially when you're an English speaking Canadian with only a highschool diploma whose work experience other than for whatever literal garbage dump or grocery stores listed is marked as "Self-Employed".

I recently applied at a sign store, to design signs graphicly.
I brought a CD, and a portfolio, and my business cards and resume, and then they asked "Do you have any experience?" to which I replied "Not professionally, but-"
They were dicks. I'm fairly confident I'm better at designing logos than any of their staff members.

Ah... to be young and money-hungry.

I'm sick of working in offices.

I'm sick of the fact my career seems to mean that I'm going to be stuck in offices for the rest of my life.

I don't want to do this any more.

What other jobs are there?
