Everybody's favorite anime series

We comic artists tend to be fans of anime, as I have noticed.

So, being that as it may be, tell everybody what your fave is.

I am pretty sure my fave is Rurouni Kenshin, though I really like Noir and Elfen Lied a lot. My bro's fave is Trigun.

It can be any anime, echhi, shonen-ai, whatever.

I used to be a HUGE fan of anime in high school. I've realized now that most of it is CRAP. But there are some which really do stand out. For me, of that list, it's a toss up between Berserk and Last Exile.

Gonna have to say Cowboy Bebop is my favourite, but I'm really getting into Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (gah, what a mouth full!) at the moment.

Records of the Lodos Wars anyone? I think I like this one just cause of who I watched it with really because I would have never kept watching it on my own.

While I'm not really a fan of current anime fare, I am a fan of animation in general, and I've spent nearly three decades now watching mostly cartoons. So, I've seen quite a bit of anime in my life. I've always had a problem with the fact that Japanese cartoons are for Japanese audiences, but importers don't seem to care that the Japanese culture is not the same as western culture. That most of the stuff that exists on television these days comes off as cheap and poorly drawn and dubbed, only amplifies my feelings. Plus, a lot of Japanese cartoons are not stand-alone, and contain convoluted stories involving characters that look and act too much alike, which means that if you miss one episode, you're pretty well screwed for the season, so why bother at all? I also hate the fact that GI Joe is now fucking anime. GI Joe should NOT be fucking anime!

That said, I do like a lot of collected classics that are pre-Pokemon "anime invasion!", which still seem somewhat hard to come by, unless you know what shadowy alleys to crawl into. A few faves:

Record of Lodoss War
Battle Angel
That old one with Lum in it, but wasn't called Lum, but is pretty funny.
Macross
Voltron
Gunsmith Cats

Come to think of it, though, most anime that makes its way over the sea can be considered a series. So, there's plenty of anime I've watched and liked plenty, that would fall into the "series" category. Frankly, I lost interest in anime on the whole after all the Poke-spawn shows made their way west, because I realized that it would take just too much time to wade through all of the crap to get to the good stuff at that point. Better to just come upon the odd good stuff by accident once in awhile.

And I second Gummi Bears! That was a kickass show!

"Gummi Beeaaaaarrrss! Bouncing here and there and everywhere!"

Berserk or Fancy Lala

Runners up would be Gungrave and Fruits Basket.

My anime tastes are bipolar.

That was actually the firs tone i saw. The art in that series was AMAZING! That one definitely is still one of my favorites. But I hated what they did with the second series after the original. The art was terrible. The story sucked. You could tell it totally got pulled into a thing where the producers thought to themselves "Hmm, what common anime crap can we kam into this one" with taking into consideration what made the first series great: story and art. [pretty essential in an animated thing if you ask me].

Shame too, because the intro sequence to that second series was beyond stellar. If only the whole series looked and felt like that.

That would be "Urusei Yatsura", which I believe was translated by Viz as "Those Obnoxious Aliens".

For all-time favorite series I'd have to go with either "Irresponsible Captain Tyler" or the original "Bubblegum Crisis". It's true that there's an awful lot of crappy anime out there... Some good (or at least interesting) shows that I've watched recently include "Jungle wa Itsumo, Hale Nochu Guu". "Twelve Kingdoms", and "Rumiko Takahashi Theatre". That last one is a series of mostly-unconnected short stories written by the same author who wrote Urusei Yatsura.

I'm not a big fan of manga, I'll watch it if it's written and animated well and all, but if I had to choose, I'd choose different drawing school.
Which would for animation probably be Disney's "Sleeping beauty" phase, and for comics French/Belgian school.

I haven't watched that many of anime, aminly because it's rarely distributed here. I did like "Ghost in the shell" and good old "Robotech". For a children series I think it was pretty clever.

Damn straight.

Vandread and Lupin III are also ones I like (though not as much as LE), but they're also some of the only few I've seen. I don't really watch that much anime.

Anime:

Excel Saga (and Puni Puni Poemy)
FLCL
Berserk
Read Or Die (OVA and series)
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi

Manga:

Hellsing

hellsing's also the only complete manga I own, so it pretty much wins there. It's still awesome though.

Outlanders. I only know of one episode, and it's battered and on vhs, but I really like it.

Anime in general I can take or leave. So long as it's got some humor to it I'll enjoy it.
