It's funny when public figures are involved in this kind of shit. Sorta knocks them down a peg, doesn't it?

Does that seem like overkill to anyone else?

No. You try shoot a flying object the size of your fist with a single bullet. Fing hard! Much easier to use a gun that spreads out alot of little bb's.

*fixed

It was birdshot, not a shotgun shell and it's not overkill at all. It's why the man he shot didn't die after being hit in the face. Birdshot doesn't do much damage at all, it kills birds without tearing them up the way bullets would.

No. You try shoot a flying object the size of your fist with a sing bullet. Fing hard! Much easier to use a gun that spreads out alot of little bb's.
doesn't that pretty much ruin it for cooking though? you have to dig all that metal out of a tiny bird... not even worth it.

of course, i'm sure he's just a sport hunter anyways... eh.

Well, that sort of takes the skill requirement out of it, I suppose.

You can survive being shot in the face though, even with a more dangerous weapon.

Cheney actually donated a bunch of turkeys he shot with birdshot to some charities for thanksgiving. I'm sure they appreciated the gesture, but uh it kinda makes it hard to eat when the bird is peppered with a ton of bbs. plus, wild turkey don't make for good eating, they are too lean and sinewy. Avatar's just bitter 'cause he feels sympathy for his avian cousins.

Either that or he just doesn't hunt much (like you said...). I don't either, but I gather shooting at a diminutive (geek+1), moving target with any kind of firearm would be difficult. Spray shot makes it possible and also makes it so you don't turn your victim into a tiny shredded pulp upon impact.

I reckon, it takes a damn lot of luck to stay alive after being shot in face with a regular bullet. Or with cannonball.

Um...if they had to go to a charity, then why should they bitch about what state the free bird is in..?

Anyway...yeah. Amusing story.

Good to see that it's not the politicians fault for once too...although you can bet the media will run with it...and the stand up vultures will pick off the corpse for months.

No, but I have seen someone get shot in the face and live.

Erm... and if you were referring to the spread shot vs. single shot thing, then I say: People used to hunt fowl with bows long before guns were invented.
