Comics to film- in for the long haul.

Post by MixedMyth »

Just read through this- http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050714/ap_ ... uperheroes
I don't really blame the comic industry for going whole hog on the movie deal- it makes more money than their comics do, really. But man...the sheer difference in quality between some of those is mind boggling. And it doesn't really look like they've learned their lesson with some of the titles listed. All in all, though, it's an interesting article.

I just want them to get crackin' on the Batman sequel. ;}

You know, I'm a pretty big comic fan...but even I'm getting tired off all these comic book movies. I used to watch all the comic book movies that come out without fail...now I don't give a crap unless it's some character I particularly like.

Yeah....well, you take the bad with the good. Still, I do fear more things like the Hulk, Daredevil, or Catwoman. You know, when they become overeager and just do it any which way without a care to make the thing actually good. Well...maybe this'll give more comics a chance at the limelight- lesser known but good ones. I'm very glad they were able to make a movie of Hellboy, for example. And the fact that a sequel is in the works makes me very happy. But man, I care about so few of those titles mentioned in the article.

Joss Whedon doing Wonderwoman was a bit of a shock. Well...even though I never really liked Buffy much, the man is a brilliant writer and I enjoyed Firefly quite alot. Hoo boy are they right about having to overhaul her, though. I read a little bit of the original comics. I mean, come on, invisible jet? Dumbest. Accessory. Ever. Particularly when you can see HER inside of it. It's like that episode of Zim, with the invisible robot. The funniest part was how she kept trying to find a place to hide it, despite the fact that it was invisible.
And her costume. Yeah, THAT needs a change..

I downright fear what a Captain America movie will be like in this day and age.

It depends who's making the movies that wins me over (basically, Nolan and Raimi).

And yey for Watchmen (hopefully). Now what about Green Lantern?

no yey! for watchmen, I thought they cancelled that film project for the third time already.

They dont seem to be able to grasp Alan Moore comics for films. League was ridiculously bad, From hell I'm told misses the point entirely and besides that was dull and Moore himself has spoken out publicly about the upcoming V for Vedetta adaptation.
article wrote:"As sacred as `Spider-Man' is, `Watchmen' is even more sacred," says Weiland. "It's probably the one all comic fans want to see made, but it's also the one we dread the most. If they screw that one up, big trouble."
I seem to remember people saying roughly the same thing about Daredevil. then they spent too much time trying to cameo creators of the comic to geek over than redraft a crummy as hell script.

What you meant to say, of course, was the Batman remake.

Yeah, I've seen way too many BAD comic movies in my time to justify them making more. Just to name a few:
Fell asleep during The Hulk at the dollar theater
the Batman movies with Bat-nipples
Crow:Salvation
Elektra
Catwoman
Nick Fury starring David Hasslehoff ('nuff said)
Man-Thing
Return of Swampthing
Steel with the acclaimed actor/rapper/athlete Shaq
the 70's Captain America movies where Cap basically just rode a motor cycle around... and who can forget the equally craptastic version made in the 90's?
Superman IV-the one where Superman takes on nuclear waste
Men in Black II
ughh... Supergirl
And as much as everyone knocks Howard the Duck, I'm okay with that one. However, I didn't even pay to see the recent Punisher movie with John Travolta, and I STILL want my money back. That has to be the worst movie I've ever sat through at the theater... It's sad when I can say Dolph Lundgren's version was farly superior... And I'll probably never watch the new Fantastic Four, but I'm pretty sure it's not much better than the one that was never released!!!

Seconded. Wouldn't it be nice if someone made a script for a webcomic? (with permission, of course)

Personally, I would rather see a new comic book movie than another remake or sequel. But I'd also much rather see good, original cinema than anything else.

I was hoping they'd leave Batman 1 in the regular run of things.

Spoilers if you haven't seen the original batman movie from 1990 or seen the ending of the new batman movie.....and if you haven't please go watch them. They're brilliant.

See, Napier always had a lucky deck, and they found the joker card at a scene of an armed robbery. They could leave 1 alone (which would make sense, having Burton, Nicholson, and Keaton in the same movie doesn't happen that often) and probably 2. Scarecrow got away, so he could be in whatever sequel they made, and some of the villians in the original 4 movies got away too.

I'd really like to see them redo/erase the 4th batman movie...cause goddamn that was bad.

Besides, if they don't remake 1, they can work on newer villians, like Mad Hatter, Reaper, Killer Croc, Scarface, CLAYFACE, and other cool villians.

I think the only benefit we could possibly get from NOT having Nicholson play the joker is the possibility of Harley Quinn.

Ahhh, but think of the merchandising tie-ins...MM has more accessories/devices/vehicles than Batman! She's MADE for an action figure, and could also double as a Barbie, especially in her Lorelei identity. Best of both worlds!
I do MM for the fun of it, but I'm willing to sell out. *Grin*

Some might work. I'm trying to see PENNY-ARCADE: THE MOVIE as a viable movie, and failing, but you might be able to do something with MEGATOKYO. You could certainly do something with some of the story comics, like CLAN OF THE CATS. Sluggy? Maybe.---Al

Two hours of a sad girl sitting in snow... I'll pass.

There should be a VG Cats movie parodying all the crappy video game movies that have (and will) come out.
