I could be mistaken, but I believe that it was only that the next pope would be the "last pope", but that the end of the world wasn't implicit. Only that the Catholic Church would end. I think the term for Benedict had something to do with olives. Figure that one out... maybe he likes muffalettas.faub wrote:http://www.catholicplanet.com/articles/article41.htm
I remember this list from an early 90s miniseries building up the whole year 2000/end of the world thing. According to this article and the series, this list says there will only be one pope after this one and that pope will preside over Armaggedon. Given that this pope is ~80, I'll be able to see the end of the world in my lifetime! YAY! 8)the article wrote:About the year A.D. 1139, Saint Malachy O'Morgair, Archbishop of Armagh, Ireland, wrote down a list of Popes. He listed 112 future Popes, each described by a phrase in Latin.
What this does give us is a chance to compare prophecy with real life. It's a good way to pass the time.

Apparently, John Paul II didn't actually die. He was merely changing life stages. The details are here.

You know, I can never hear the phrase "beautiful butterfly" without thinking of that one scene Alien: Resurrection. So this article really seemed creepy.
On another not, Benedict XVI has apparently responded firmly to the first challenge of his papacy. I officially don't like him now.

"Auto-de-fe? What's an Auto-de-fe?"

Could happen. The Catholic church was slowly dying under the reign of John Paul, and this new guy won't help. In America they have to put out adverts to try and recruit new priests, because no one wants to be one anymore. They have a billion followers, but how many are actually devout? The number in the developed world are decreasing, and increasing in the developing world. With increasing numbers of their followers in the developing world, the churchs anti-contraception stance conflicts badly with all the health programmes for developing regions (woo, aids epidemic).JPSloan wrote:I could be mistaken, but I believe that it was only that the next pope would be the "last pope", but that the end of the world wasn't implicit.
