the first two pictures at the beginning of the thread also featured food, one surrounded by chocolate wrappers (slobbishly) and the other with a chicken bone in her mouth, then the other two... if the picture of the person eating watermelon was of someone who always loves lots of watermelon, then that would change slightly, but still, 4 out of 6 pictures, or a full 2/3 of them, feature someone gorging themselves on food. even if its canniblistic in nature. i do understand that these are jokes and whatnot, but like the blackface that nanda mentioned, its still offensive. the point of the thread isn't what bothers me. just like i wonder what i would look like if i were skinny, wondering what you might look like fat is interesting. just realize that there's more to do with it then just gorging yourself. it also paints a bad picture of food, and what scares me is a post-secret postcard i saw once that said that they felt like a failure every time they eat, like a good, moral person would not be dependant on food, and be able to live without it if they had any sort of self-control.

so, i'm sorry if my offense offends you, but its merely my opinion, and i appreciate you taking the time to read it at all...

may the fat drawings re-commence.
ow! my soul!

I didn't mention the first picture because that is me, and I avoid allowing other people to be offended on my behalf. It is also a before and after picture (if you look you'll also notice that it's not the overweight person doing the stuffing in this case).

The second picture is (first of all) a man, and that's a spoon. The point there was that 'we' held bean down and force fed him because he was so horrified by the first picture that we decided to 'include' him, by tying him to a tree and sticking ice cream down him.

Obviously that's a context that takes outside explanation which was one of the reasons I didn't mention them to begin with. And really I think 'overfeeding' is a perfectly valid image here, since these are obviously skinny people made into fat people. I agree the 'slob' point is valid, but the point about eating really isn't.

And for the record I'm not offended or anything, I just wanted to try and show that it wasn't meant offensively, and maybe wasn't as bad as you initially thought.

I actually was really nervous about using food in Escushion's and Phactorri's pictures. What Orion said about the other person force feeding in Orion and Bean's images is true and I do not think they count. However I really am perfectly aware food dosn't equal fat. I know tons of skinny people eat like pigs and gain nothing (and I hate them for it : P). The only reason I included food in either of the other two images was just trying to make the images more interesting by including something else about the person. Escushion had a chainsaw, instead of making him a murderer, I decided to make him used it to cut up food, since he said "I'll Bite". The next one I used fat and muscle also because of Laem's comment. They were just things that inspired me to make the image more unique. Col was inflated cause he's a ghost and it's funny. And phactorri I was stuck on, one of the things Orion told me about him was he was a friendly guy and a vegetarian, so I had him being all cute with watermelon. I still felt guilty about relying on the food in both cases because it is a sterotype.

But realy this is becoming too risky. I think I might take Lego's request and then stop.

Dreams wrote:i'm really trying not to be offended by this thread, but one thing that just keeps happening with no comment is what's offensive to me.

fat people do not *always* have food in thier hands/mouths/on thier clothes.

its like using a wrench to show someone's a mechanic, people use a chicken drumstick to show someone as fat. its something i find offensive, becaue i am fat, but i don't eat more than my skinny friends. some skinny friends eat twice what i do. its genetics. unless you typically draw skinny people with watermelon juice all over thier shirts, why should you draw a fat person that way? also, not all fat people are slobs. we're not all lazy. i would think that this would be more challenging to draw someone fat without sinking to the lowest common denominator to say "see? drumstick and mess? they're fat". sorry, i just had to get that out.

and if you want to see good cute fat girls, just visit stinky's work.

(and for those of you saying "who the f*ck is this person ranting on our parade?" i'm a past poster who visits every so often, and am good friends with stinky, nanda and skunkadoo)
