Re: US political nonsense
I don't think I've ever put my hand over my heart to the national anthem. I've put a hat there a couple times out of not knowing what to do with it, but other than that all I've ever done is salute or stand at attention depending on what I was wearing. I wouldn't knock points off the guy for something stupid like that. I reaaaally hope he gets the democrat nomination and not Hillary.

Re: US political nonsense
Nothing disposable should have the American flag on it. That's the Code. And those people in that image do more, in my opinion, to insult the flag than every protestor who has ever burned my country's flag. I know that all the people who want a flag burning Amendment in the Constitution are completely off their rocker because there is one (and only one) way to properly permanently retire an old, worn out flag. Burn it.KWill wrote: Ah, yeah, the stamps. Might tear the flag, so its a no-no. I must admit, I loved some of the flag violations in ought-six:

Aren't you supposed to cut the union out and then burn the two pieces separately?

Re: US political nonsense
yeah, I totally do not get it. for a nation which conservatives tell us is throughly "Christian", flag rules seems awfully... pagan.
displays of patriotism is one of my pet peeve issues. too often people confuse patriotism with blind jingoism.

No. The only guidance found in the Flag code is "destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."BeefotronX wrote:Aren't you supposed to cut the union out and then burn the two pieces separately?
And War, there's similar rules on your side of the pond, just nothing about burning.

Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

The method I mentioned I think may be how just some groups prefer to do it - I think maybe it's the Boy Scouts.

Laemkral and Mr Bob all over this thread.
If that kinda shit's really important to you then, yeah, I guess you shouldn't vote for the guy. What can you do.BeefotronX wrote:So, you wouldn't consider it a loyalty oath to the Constitution?
Anyway, I do not trust a man who seems to equate any demonstration of patriotism with "trite displays of mindless nationalism", whether minor symbols like a lapel pin or observing the established code of respect for the Flag.
I'm not saying anything to the effect of that he should be rounded up and sent to a camp or some ridiculous thing like that; I simply have trouble entrusting the next few years of my country in the hands of someone who, apparently, is absolutely ashamed of it.

Actually what's important to me is not raising taxes on the rich.yeahduff wrote:

I work for rich people and want to be sure they can continue to afford my services, and perhaps take on a price hike some time.

"We're a very flaggy people." I like that.
Re: US political nonsense
There are no laws regarding the use and disposal of the Union Jack. This is the flag used by Brits to show loyalty to the UK, the St George's cross only tends to be flown around the World Cup. This is because it's only unofficially a national flag. And even with regards to official flags, we don't really care.Laemkral wrote:BeefotronX wrote: And War, there's similar rules on your side of the pond, just nothing about burning.
