I would but he's like dead and stuff.
[John Edward]I have a message from Joey Ramone. He's showing me a "J". Do you have a male member of your family, or a friend, or a co-worker, with the initial "J" or "G"? It can be a first or last initial.[/John Edward]
Of course, I'm the one that isn't JP Sloan or Jim North.

One person said that all songs by any group sound the same to a person who doesn't listen to it. I find that partly true and draw conclusion that all artists have basically one or a few songs that they constantly rewrite. It's not that they stick to a formula, it's that they can't do different. Which means that it's nothing bad. It's a crude generalization, all, but it works in so many cases.
I once let my cousin borrow a Radiohead tape I made for myself. Side A was OK Computer and B was The Bends. After listening to each side once, he declared that all their songs sound the same. *sigh*

Yeah, what you say is true, but it's not as if I've been deprived of AC DC. I'm quite familiar with them, and have fouind that they keep writing the same song over and over again. That in itself is not a bad thing. I love the Ramones, but they too kept writing the same song over and over again. It happens I like The Ramones' song, but am not really a big fan of AC DC's song.

Even though I like them, one band that is guilty of having every song sound the same is Blink 182. Literally, all of their albums sound exactly the same.

We should form a band, record one song, and put it 10 times on one CD. Add some indecipherbe lyrics, change the song titles and see who notices! We'll be RICH!

Hey, it worked for Tool.

Oh, didn't think you were. It was just a general conclusion.
Hehe, I remember a quote from some brit-pop band back in nineties, I can't remember which: "I don't know why everyone loves Oasis so much. They have only one song. While we, for instance, have a whole three songs!"

Man, when I went to costume party, I found that they were playing Nick Cave repeatedly on a stage called "gothic".
Just because he's dark and grimmy he has to be put in gothic? :x

I've noticed this, but in the first person. I get a cd, and I swear to you, all the songs sound more or less the same.

Then I listen to it a bit, and all the songs become mindbendingly distinct. At different rates.

It's actually kind of creepy.

I had a similar idea for a punk band, where all the songs would be recorded the same, only the lyrics were different, but no one else bought into the idea. Of course if you want to hear music that sounds the same, I suggest riddim. It's a style of dancehall where artists take the same instrumental and then record new lyrics and such over it to make each tune sound different. It's kinda weird but cool.

Yeah, that's true.
Most blatant example of this is one friend of mine who never listened to anything except metal. When it comes to non-metal music, it's blatant what stuff sounds the same to him. He heard Hives and thought I'd like them because I like Radiohead.

Actually, the newest one they came out with was pretty different. I'm glad they changed, because I didn't really like them a whole lot before that.

On a totally different note, I really want Jimmy Buffett to go away.

Wow.

I was driving my dad around and I had a tape on that I made. Half way into a Jurassic Five song, he told me to turn it off, because all the songs sound the same. Which is funny, because the songs directly preceeding it were Alkaline Trio, Flaming Lips, Wilco, Queens of the Stone Age, Le Tigre and Portishead.

And yes, Jimmy Buffett must die.

Any of you music lovers read his book?
