What I find interesting about the game is that, apparently, the world has a population of about 70 Billion.

Since South America is made up completely of Peru, Brazil, and Argentina alone, we may be looking at a future Earth, and the game may stand as a testament to the dangers of overpopulation!

I finally managed to kill the whole world by starting on bacteria and in Madagascar. From there, it was just having no symptoms and the thing spread like wildfire after about a looooong time just siting on Madagascar.

I have now wiped out the human race a few times with my various breeds of invasive gastric animals (frogs, bunnies, tubeworms, you name it). The tricks I've found:

1) You can do it as a virus, bacteria, or parasite.
2) Madagascar isn't THAT hard to get, provided you get South Africa - I have never gotten Madagascar with a boat; it's always been transmitted. Apparently there is a border there. Who knew?
3) You get more points for killing rapidly, even if you don't kill everyone.
4) Starting in a country with two airports is great.
5) Build slowly until you have infected every nation - I do 1 or 2 of each resistance and no symptoms or transmission methods at all until I've touched every country.

I wonder if there are any high school biology teachers out there who have used this thing as a teaching tool for kids.

Maybe if it was a little better designed.

The transmissions for example, only affect the countries that are already infected. "Airborne" does not allow the virus to spread across closed borders. "Waterborne" does not improve the chances of infecting via boat. Insects and Rodents also don't seem to cross borders.

They may just take those things into account for PIII - assuming they make it - considering how much of an improvement PII was over the original game. If not, maybe someone should suggest it to 'em.

If Pandemic becomes realistic enough, maybe it'll replace the Corrupted Blood incident as the standard in video game based learning in disease research.
